The Biometrics team at Roche are looking for a high calibre sandwich student to join the Clinical Data Management department for a twelve month industrial placement working in the area of clinical trials. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain industry experience as a Clinical Programmer and work with a specialist technical team in our world class facility based in Welwyn Garden City.
As a Clinical Programmer, you will have an opportunity to work on clinical trials supporting data handling activities to help deliver treatments to patients. During the placement, you will learn about clinical trials and how they are conducted. You will also learn specifics of the disease area under study, treatments, trial design and therapeutic area of your designated project. Along with the scientific knowledge you also will also learn technical skills/tools which are used to capture, manage, process/transform and interpret the clinical data.
Main responsibilities:
• Collaborate with local and international study teams to achieve efficient solutions.
• Contribute to the timelines for programming deliverables at the clinical trial/study level.
• Effectively coordinates workload and communicates status of work.
• Responsible for study deliverables for one or more clinical trials/studies
o Creation and maintenance of clinical trial databases and related objects for the collection of patient data for clinical trials.
o Program derivations and conditions to control access to forms and fields.
o Review of data quality check specifications and programming data quality checks during the course of clinical trials/studies.
o Development of programs for extracting and transforming patient data into the appropriate data model to support reporting and analysis activities.
o Customizes standard report templates to produce study-specific reports for data cleaning and Medical Data Review.
• Support study closeout activities.
• Adherence to global standards and project related standards.
• Manages the handover and provides support to stakeholders or service providers on study-level tasks.
• Review and monitors study-level tasks performed by service providers as needed.

Supported by major motorways & airports as well as being a 30 minute train ride to London, access is easy. An ongoing university education in a scientific or relevant technical degree (or similar) is required. Ideally the Clinical Programmer will have working experience in handling scientific data, and an interest or an aptitude to programming languages such as R, Python, SQL, C# or SAS

Be a logical thinker and/or an analytical mind, a passion for patient health/safety and would enjoy finding solutions for Roche patients around the world.
You will have good communication skills and be customer focused as you will be working in a global environment with interactions at all levels.
