Chemist in Solid State Modeling and Simulation
Behind every presentation of each product sold by Roche is the involvement of Pharma Global Technical Operations (PT). Starting with Phase I of the development process and continuing through to product maturity, PT makes medicines at sites around the world and includes more than 10 000 employees worldwide.
"Global Technical Development" (PTD) is an organization of over two thousand people globally that are integral for the mission of Roche to develop meaningful medicines for patients. Therefore, PTD actively collaborates and develops creative technical solutions to bridge early-stage, late-stage and commercial product needs. The mandate of the group is, to reliably deliver the pipeline and supply quality products to patients. The group excels in its work through innovation, collaboration, dedication, and mutual respect and contributes every day, continuously improving what it does.
“Small Molecules Technical Development” (PTDC) brings a broad range of experience across drug substance (DS), drug product (DP), analytical sciences and manufacturing S&T, and collaborates closely with key partners in the departments Research and Early Development (pRED / gRED), Small Molecules (PTC) and PTD. PTDC is responsible for late stage technical development of our small molecules pipeline, manufacture of DS and DP for clinical studies and Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) across our small molecules manufacturing network.
As a Chemist in Modeling and Simulation you will work in a solid state chemistry group. You will introduce and establish the use of computational methods to guide the experimental design in areas such as investigation of the solid form landscape of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), characterization of solid forms, or crystal and particle engineering. You will complement the experimentally based solid form screening activities with in-silico predictions, analyze and interpret data from laboratory experiments and perform simulations enabling, for example, solid form control, crystal habit modification, or systematic modification of crystallization parameters. You will also contribute to an in-depth understanding of the structure – property relationship of APIs.
The position involves close collaboration with internal and external scientists from different disciplines, and cross-functional interactions with technical project teams. By combining an advanced knowledge in chemistry, crystallography and computational approaches, you are able to extract and analyze data associated with the crystal structure of the API and building predictive models based on such data for subsequent verification in a chemistry lab.
To successfully perform in this role, you bring the following qualifications:
· PhD in a relevant field such as solid state chemistry, crystallography, or materials sciences
· Strong solid-state chemistry background, with knowledge of the drug development process
· Minimum of 3 years of experience in applying molecular and quantum mechanical modelling software and tools to small organic molecules for the purpose of predicting, modifying and optimizing their solid state properties (e.g., crystal habit, solubility, physical stability)
· A strong background in (solid-state) chemistry, as well as experience in crystal and/or particle engineering would be advantageous.
· You can make the scientific results of your work understandable to employees with diverse backgrounds and thus contribute to the achievement of the overarching goals.
· Ability to work independently as well as in cross-functional teams together with employees of different background.
· Good knowledge English (oral and written); knowledge of German is an advantage.
