Global Technical Development (PTD) is an organization of over two thousand people globally that are integral for the mission of Roche to develop meaningful medicines for patients. Therefore, PTD actively collaborates and develops creative technical solutions to bridge early-stage, late-stage and commercial product needs. The mandate of the group is, to reliably deliver the pipeline and supply quality products to patients. Synthetic Molecules Technical Development (PTDC) brings a broad range of experience across drug substance (DS), drug product (DP), analytical sciences and manufacturing S&T, and collaborates closely with key partners in the departments Research and Early Development (pRED / gRED), Small and Large Molecules (PTC, PTB), PTD and Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) across our manufacturing network.
The Analytical Development department is part of Global Technical Development and responsible for analysing drug substances and dosage forms of synthetic molecule development products. The “Hyphenated & Special Technologies (HST)” section provides key scientific customer support with Mass Spectrometry (MS), separation sciences and innovative special technologies.
Within the HST section the Extractables & Leachables (E&L) team investigates primary packaging and single-use materials which are used in the manufacturing of liquid, small and large molecules to verify the safety and quality of our products.
As topic expert for Extractables & Leachables you are mainly responsible for the following tasks :

You are responsible for the coordination of Extractables & Leachables requests.
·
As part of the E&L team you are involved in the qualitative and quantitative trace determination of organic and elemental impurities by various Mass Spectrometry (MS) based techniques (LC-high-resolution MS, GC-MS and/or ICP-MS).
·
With your scientific expertise you contribute to analytical projects and work in close collaboration with technicians.
·
You will support global, cross-functional teams as subject matter expert for Extractables & Leachables and present scientific results to stakeholders (e.g. colleagues from process development, manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs,...).
·
You will innovate current E&L workflows together with the team and seek for opportunities to foster Digital Transformation.
·
You will coordinate externally performed studies (Outsourcing)
·
You will support root cause analyses and troubleshooting activities for commercial products incl. Small Molecules, Oligonucleotides and Biopharmaceuticals. For this purpose you will develop new analytical methods to solve complex questions.
·
You will support efficient "time to market"-driven analytics for pharmaceutical development products and licensed products.
·
You will provide support for the section head and for the entire organization in developing and implementing departmental strategies and goals.
Who you are:
We are looking for a candidate that holds a Doctorate degree in natural science (chemistry, pharmacy, food chemistry, environmental chemistry, polymer chemistry or equivalent) or a Master degree with a significant background in the relevant field.
Your skills are :
·
Hands-on experience in mass spectrometry coupled with chromatography (e.g. LC-MS, GC-MS and/or ICP-MS), in particular in the qualitative and quantitative trace determination of impurities in different matrices.
·
Good knowledge in solving analytical challenges by application of various analytical techniques (MS, NMR, FTIR, Raman,..)
·
Experience in the determination of “Extractables & Leachables” according to current regulatory requirements.
·
Knowledge on single-use materials and their pre-treatment (e.g. gamma-irradiation, autoclavation, cleaning in place/ sterilization in place (CIP/SIP) etc.) as well as on the manufacturing of biopharmaceutical products would be a plus.
·
Knowledge on the formation and characterization of proteinaceous and non-proteinaceous particles in biopharmaceutical products would be a plus.
In addition, you fulfill the following requirements :

Preferably, experience in the pharmaceutical industry
·
Strong coordination skills, self-driven, proactive, solution-oriented, efficient and reliable attitude
·
Excellent teamplayer, also in global cross-functional teams
·
Working style motivated by flexibility, pragmatism, responsibility and innovation
·
Enjoy developing new methods in the lab and working with sophisticated instruments
·
You are open and curious and enjoy applying modern technologies to further optimize existing ways of working

This position is currently temporary for 2 years and due to retirements in the group there is a potential option to extend the employment or turn it into a permanent one after 2 years.
