The Position

Department Summary

As a Support and Applications team, we play a critical role in Roche's Sequencing and Life Science (SLS) commercial division by making next-generation sequencing simple and accessible for routine use. We are a multidisciplinary, dynamic, and collaborative team that builds lasting relationships with our customers, who are advancing science and transforming healthcare through next-generation sequencing.

The Bioinformatics team in Support and Applications at SLS is critical in providing relevant data-driven insights to our internal wet lab and field team members who are at the frontlines for customer support activities.

This internship position is located on-site in Wilmington, MA. 

Key Responsibilities

We seek a highly motivated and talented graduate student to join our team as a DevOps Intern. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of DevOps, with a focus on front-end development and databases. As a DevOps Intern, you will work closely with the Bioinformatics team and our cross-functional teams to support and enhance one of our software deployment projects. 

Specifically, you will be responsible for:

  • Front-End Development: Contribute to developing and maintaining front-end components of our applications, ensuring a seamless and responsive user experience.

  • Database Management: Assist in managing and optimizing a database system, ensuring data integrity, security, and performance.

  • Automation: Work on automating routine tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention in the software development lifecycle.

  • Documentation: Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation related to DevOps processes, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures carried out.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-week, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates will be in May/June (Summer) 

  • A stipend can be provided based on location to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. 

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are

Required Education: 

- Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree

- Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student)

Required majors: 

Computer Science, Information Systems, Bioinformatics, or any related field

Required skills/experience: 

- Strong understanding of front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue).

- Knowledge of database management systems, including relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).

- Basic understanding of DevOps principles, continuous integration, and continuous deployment.

- Proficiency in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Bash).

- Excellent problem-solving skills.

- Eager to learn and adapt to new technologies.
