ROLE SUMMARY
Cartier’s London Archive is seeking to appoint an Archivist to manage its research activity. This is crucial role within the London Archive team, providing detailed research support to, and working closely with, various internal teams. The role involves, maintaining an accurate and up to date record of research undertaken, facilitated by the day to day use and development of the archive database. Additionally, working as part of the Heritage team (Cartier International) and support the Head of Archives with research expertise during archive projects as needed.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Research
· To undertake archive research to aid the authentication/valuation of jewellery, watches, accessories and other objects made by Cartier London between c.1900 and the present day.
· To respond to any requests in a timely fashion, observing confidentiality protocol. To communicate research results accurately and with an appropriate level of detail.
· To prepare and anticipate requests relating to Cartier London pieces in the trade as appropriate.
M@rs
· Ensure all research requests are added in full to the archive database – M@rs. These records should include an image and other supporting archive documentations where possible, as well as being fully keyworded.
· Ensure that M@rs’ thesaurus and client database is well-maintained to enable efficient key-wording for research requests, eliminating duplicates.
· Carry out a quality control exercise at the end of every calendar year, ensuring that all research requests have been filed correctly; create and save pdf copies of emails relating to research.
· Produce a report on the year’s research activity.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
· Postgraduate qualification in Archives Administration (or equivalent experience)
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills
· Excellent IT Skills, including MS Office and relevant archiving software
· Ability to work independently
· Excellent organisation and time management
· Attention to detail, taking pride in the accuracy of your work
· A working knowledge of the decorative arts, twentieth century history and/or jewellery design would be beneficial
