Overview of the job
The role focuses primarily on domestic and international trademark clearance, prosecution and enforcement, providing support in trademark disputes. We are willing to train motivated individuals with solid critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills, strong communication capabilities (both oral and written). We are looking for someone with a zest for creativity and passion for learning in the trademarks and other emerging intellectual property space!
Your team
You will report to the Assistant General Counsel, Legal – Trademarks & Marketing Assets Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMA) based in Singapore. This is an opportunity to work with a team of experienced trademark professionals, seeking to make an impactful difference to how we co-create trademarks and other ownable IP assets for P&G’s brands!
How success looks like
Success in the role will require you to help drive business results in AMA by combining trademarks expertise, practical business judgment, creative problem solving, critical thinking, and good communication skills to offer clients clear explanation of basic trademark issues. The job requires someone who is meticulous, has an eye for detail and someone who can work under pressure by effectively handling deadlines and occasional high-volume work.
Responsibilities of the role
Core Job Responsibilities:
· Conduct online, worldwide trademark searches and associated on-line marketplace investigations needed to enable the provision of clear, business-focused advice and risk analyses.
· Collaborate with in-house and outside trademark attorneys and paralegals to lead an international trademark portfolio for one or more P&G business units. This will include advising and preparing significant volumes of trademark applications, prosecution responses, and registration and renewal documents.
· Collating materials for and drafting of affidavits of use, drafting simple cease and desist letters, replies to trademark office actions, on-line marketplace takedowns, oppositions and other trademark and copyright enforcement activities
Other administrative responsibilities:
· Organize Meetings: align schedule, handle logistics, assist in the preparation of meeting summary and agenda, circulate meeting materials.
· Provide administrative support for the organizing and running of trainings.
· Update trademarks database
· Prepare trademark reports for purposes of renewals, prepare report of contentious issues for purposes of sharing with business leadership team.
· Liaise with Business Unit Finance for the processing of outside counsel fees, follow up with payment and trouble-shoot with Accounts Payable when payment issues arise.
· Keep up with technology advancements and look for opportunities to improve / simplify processes within Legal (e.g., record management, use of collaboration tools, identifying tech/database training needs. May be required to work with a global team that’s looking into systems improvement and may involve occasional night calls.
Job Qualifications
Role Requirements
· Tertiary education
· Trademarks experience in a law firm or in an in-house legal department would be preferred
· Experience in leading trademark clearance, prosecution, and enforcement throughout Asia, Middle East & Africa would be an advantage
· Familiarity with on-line trademark screening tools such as Compumark / Corsearch / SAEGIS and IP record management databases
· Ability to handle multiple projects and competing priorities
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills; fluent in English
· Fluency in reading and writing Mandarin or Arabic would be an advantage
