We are looking for permanent staff to support on nuclear projects. Supporting one of our key clients, you will act as the face of Nuvia throughout the project.

 

Overview

The successful delivery of the Conventional Island (CI) requires Engineering blockers to be resolved. The Turbine Area Engineering Lead (AEL) will establish the strategic methodologies within the organisation in order to allow the smooth continuation of site activities focusing on best for project outcomes to include decision making focused on Safety, Quality, Time and Cost. The Turbine AEL reports to a Turbine Technical Manager and works within Turbine Area Engineering Delivery (AED). Their accountability is split between the HPC Technical Director and the Turbine Area Delivery Director.

To discharge this role, you should have suitable & sufficient experience of equipment design, engineering, manufacture and installation to allow you to be the guiding hand to ensure decisions are made that are best-for-project. This work could encompass mechanical, electrical and Instrumentation & Control, and applications are welcomed from people with experience in any/all these fields.

 

Role Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Technical Turbine Manager, Technical Engineering Leads, Turbine Project Mangers and other stakeholders to identify, triage and put in place resolution plans for technical topics.
  • Ensure sufficient support through the organisation to the Turbine Group to ensure suitable focus on construction, erection and commissioning activities.
  • Work directly with the Engineering team of the suppliers to monitor, drive and resolve interface issues between HPC and the supplier.
  • Perform reporting of Turbine Area topics such as Design Open points, Configuration Control and other risks for the Turbine Area to the HPC senior stakeholders.
  • Provide a decisive escalation route for issues which are deadlocked and a catalyst for innovative optioneering.
  • Resolve cross-functional technical issues which would not be resolved, achieving a best-for-project solution with a schedule-conscious approach.
  • Work with the programmes and the technical teams on prioritisation and emerging scope topics, maximising the efficiency and value of delivery.
  • Risk management - Understand risks and keep up to date risk tracking.
  • Actively manage technical risk across all HPCs programmes.
  • Advocate for pragmatic decision making which respects the overall aims of the project and ensures technical integrity. This will involve producing and driving mitigation plans for risks and issues. There will also be a strong focus on optioneering and governance decisions, ensuring these are fit for purpose and made at the right level.

Desired profile

Experience and Qualifications

  • A relevant degree in engineering or science. If relevant, you should have achieved or be working towards chartership in that discipline.
  • Broad experience in the nuclear industry including knowledge of nuclear safety cases and the regulatory environment.
  • Experience of engineering across different disciplines (e.g. Mechanical, Civil and Project). Expert level knowledge is not expected in these areas how you will be expected to interact with experts regularly.
  • Experience working with suppliers
  • Ability to lead complex technical/commercial topics with multiple stakeholders, managing multi-million pound budgets with a strong technical focus.
  • A level of experience across the project lifecycle for a complex EPC project which should include design, manufacture, construction/installation, commissioning and preferably also operations.
  • Strong focus on delivery.
  • Fluent English is essential. The ability to communicate in French is beneficial.
