Introduction
At IBM, Technical Solution Architects work to understand needs and then create complex high-quality solutions that make meaningful impact. You’ll be responsible for overall leadership and delivery of the solutions from requirement gathering through implementation. You’ll use your in-depth knowledge of leading-edge products and technologies along with industry and business skills to influence outcomes working with customers world-wide.

Your Role and Responsibilities
The Technical Solution Architect is responsible for working closely with customers to understand mission-critical company directives and develop technical solutions to support the business needs and technical requirements, then apply AI solutions to address the needs. This world-wide role is specifically required to use a mix of consultative skills, technical expertise, and the latest IBM AI software to guide customers in modernizing code bases such as COBOL to Java. This includes:
·  Reviewing customers’ environment to ensure it meets all pre-requisites
·  Migrate/upgrade/install pre-requisites in customers' environment as needed
·  Assess customers’ COBOL applications, business rules and application flow
·  Help define customers’ modernization strategy (approach, dependencies, impacts etc)
·  Assist customers with conversion and unit testing of COBOL code to Java
·  Assist customers with post conversion performance assessments. Throughout the solutioning process, the Technical Solution Architect will lead workshops, discussions, and presentations to help customers understand advantages of proposed solutions and best practice approaches to transition to the cloud-based architectures.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

·  Multiple years of experience in multi-cloud container architecture.
·  Multiple years of experience in end-to-end solution architecture.
·  Excellent communication and writing skills.
·  Strong skills in understanding customer requirements and pain points then applying technology to best address them.
·  COBOL language understanding and ability to understand existing business applications written in COBOL.
·  Interoperability between COBOL and Java.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

·  Experience in refactoring, testing, and writing COBOL code.
·  Experience in the full development life-cycle
·  Automated testing experience with tools such as Junit
·  Java language development experience in JDK 11 including ability to write, test, debug and deploy Java code
·  Experience in executing tests to validate functional equivalence between refactored COBOL code and Java code
·  IBM Application Discovery and Delivery Intelligence (ADDI) skills: Installation & configuration, using ADDI for discovery and analysis of existing COBOL monolithic applications, import output from ADDI and selectively refactor sections of monolithic COBOL code into discrete business stand-alone COBOL service
