Job summary
As UX Designer you rapidly turn ideas into engaging and intuitively usable interactive experience concepts for omni-channel digital products and services. You are comfortable engaging with client stakeholders, strategists, designers and technology teams to workshop and define future digital experiences. You contribute your ideas and your deep insights of human behavior, interactive usability and established experience design systems such as Apple or Google. You are comfortable in a highly agile and iterative environment where you translate business concepts into journeys, screen flows and interactions. You are as comfortable sketching to visualize ideas, and following up with detailed annotated wireframes and clickable prototypes. You interface with visual designers and technical delivery teams to turn ideas into fully designed and functional systems.
This role will utilize a high level analytical ability and creativity to address ambiguous, large, complex/new problems and projects and apply IBM Design thinking to determine priority, scope and relationships of existing and proposed solutions. Candidates in this role will lead discussions and presentations for both working and delivery purposes and effectively communicate process on all engagements and have measurable successful deliveries. A significant level of customer and stakeholder interaction is required.
This role will champion design decisions with qualified rationale that is justified through their own experience and design research, or through findings from other Design professionals. The UX Designer must have the ability to negotiate and evolve the design with stakeholders in the project team, and ensure the integrity of the design is upheld in the delivered product. They will participate in the overall improvement of the IBM Design community by way of thought leadership, design excellence, education and mentorship. Global knowledge sharing and management is key to IBM's success.

This role requires Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in the following capabilities:

Assess an existing site/property for usefulness, usability, visual design, content, and branding (with guidance and oversight).

· 
Prepare, conduct, and analyze behavioral in-context research events (with guidance and oversight).

· 
Conduct, prepare notes, and analyze stakeholder interviews to understand key success factors for a project or pursuit.

· 
Execute participatory requirements gathering sessions and participate in debrief sessions (with guidance and oversight); create feature lists from sessions.

· 
Analyze, synthesize, and organize research data into meaningful themes, categories, and visually compelling frameworks and behavioral models.

· 
Identify opportunities to create business value and improve the user experience, based on research; organize opportunities into visually compelling matrices or maps.

· 
Provide recommendations to the client/internal team based on findings.

· 
Able to conduct and present heuristic evaluations and audits for content and taxonomy

· 
Build taxonomies, feature lists and functionalities based on research findings and content strategies

· 
Gather and document requirements from stakeholders

· 
Utilize low-fidelity, medium-fidelity, and high-fidelity prototypes across the different stages of the design process.

· 
Develop personas/segmentations based on research findings (with guidance and oversight).

· 
Create engaging scenarios that describe how user profiles/personas would interact with the design solution to accomplish their goals and meet their needs.

· 
Develop frameworks that describe key aspects of a proposed experience, and how it reconciles business and user needs.

· 
Create visually compelling representations of the solution's high-level interaction, navigation, and organization design (i.e., concept models).

· 
Develop visual representations of the organizational structure, hierarchy, and relationships of screens in a site (i.e., site maps), with guidance and oversight.

· 
Develop visual representations of the interactions between the user and the functional modules in the solution (with guidance and oversight).

· 
Develop screen details (i.e., wireframes) depicting all elements on a unique screen type, including the content, functional, and navigation specifications (with guidance and oversight).

· 
Define user models, overarching stories, and user interfaces for the digital ecosystem

· 
Co-create research programs for testing

· 
Prepare programs for A/B testing

· 
Be a mentor to UX designers

This role also involves the following:

· 
Provide thought leadership around art and experience design

· 
Knowledge of state of the art and emerging digital design trends, and how new technologies impact these trends

· 
iX Community: Participates in and/or is responsible for the creation, harvesting, protection and reuse of IBM's intellectual capital. Participates actively in and in some cases leads knowledge sharing activities like communities of practice, forums, conferences and/or other knowledge exchanges.

· 
Ability to accommodate extensive travel at times (50% - 60% or more)

·

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

·  Bachelor Degree in Design/Communications/Advertising/Journalism/Media Studies
·  Strong portfolio including user research, personas, sketches, wireframes, digital designs for native apps and web
·  At least 3 years' experience designing digital experiences
·  At least 3 years experience in Adobe Creative Suite
·  At least 3 years experience in Axure, Omnigraffle, Sketch, InVision or similar
