Postdoctoral Researcher- NLP

IBM Research – Australia is seeking talented researcher passionate about utilising machine learning methods to analyse health data and translate their research into outcomes. We are seeking candidates with a strong background in machine learning and natural language processing to join a multidisciplinary team focused on solving challenging problems in the field of healthcare. Our mission is to invent and build technologies that will generate insight from the wealth of complex health data that is being generated every day.

We have a number of projects strongly aligned with new technologies designed to address data overload in the healthcare space, more specifically machine learning based named entity recognition and relation extraction from scientific literature, electronic medical records and related documents.

The underlying principle of the projects is to utilize large repositories of structured and unstructured health data and apply state of the art machine learning techniques to generate insight. The outcomes of the projects are then translated into tools and technologies to deliver better decision outcomes. The candidate is expected to plan, engineer and execute on projects under the supervision of a manager or research staff member. Project outcomes will be disseminated internally and externally through publications in world-class journals, top-tier conferences, patent disclosures and community engagement.

The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of original and creative research with a deep knowledge of computer science and machine learning with experience in natural language processing.

What skills do I need?
·  Proven track record of original and creative research with a deep knowledge of computer science and machine learning with experience in natural language processing.
·  Demonstrated expertise in data processing and software engineering skills (Java, python, etc.)
·  Demonstrated expertise in machine learning for NLP (e.g. CRF, deep learning, etc.)
·  Track record of research publications in high-quality journals and conferences
·  Excellent written and verbal communication skills

What experience do I need?
·  Ph. D. in relevant discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics)
·  Demonstrated ability to work in a team and independently
·  Ability to engage effectively with local and global teams
