Your Role and Responsibilities

Summary

This role has fiduciary responsibility for the Equity, Life Cycle and Expanded Choice Mutual Fund investments in IBM's US defined contribution (IBM 401(k) Plan) Trust. A broad understanding of the capital markets, good understanding of equity instruments, project management experience, strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, and solid communication skills are required. Experience conducting due diligence analysis, managing investment portfolios and an understanding of financial market derivatives are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage the investment strategy for the 401(k) Plan’s $34 billion in Equity funds. Select/retain investment managers based on ongoing due diligence analysis of the manager’s investment process, risk controls and investment performance.

• Manage the $8 billion Expanded Choice Mutual Funds line-up including the selection of Mutual Fund Families and specific funds offered.

• Assist the Director - Global DC Plans, on Life Cycle Fund strategy including the asset allocation and glidepath of the Plan’s custom Target Retirement Funds.

• Evaluate investment risks and seek opportunities to improve the risk/return profile of the Plan’s investment offerings.

• Analyze plan data to identify and drive changes that can improve participant outcomes.

• Prepare and deliver presentations to senior management and the Investment Committee on a variety of strategy, market and risk topics.

• Work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment with fund personnel on broader investment matters including the maintenance of a strong controls environment.

The IBM Retirement Funds organization has oversight responsibilities for approximately $55 billion in global Defined Benefit plan assets and $70 billion in global Defined Contribution plan assets. The organization is responsible for investment strategy, risk management, external manager selection and oversight as well as performance measurement, reporting and attribution. The $57B US 401(k) Plan is the largest IBM pension plan and second largest corporate 401(k) plan in the U.S.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting/Economics

• Solid experience in capital markets

• Solid experience with equity instruments

• Solid experience in portfolio management

• Highly proficient in Excel

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

• Masters degree in Finance

• CFA charterholder (or working towards)
