Job description

The Patent Professional Intern will learn the basics of patent law with an emphasis on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications at one of our three Patent Center locations. Responsibilities may include: study of relevant patent law, review of invention disclosures and patentability search results, interviewing inventors, drafting of technical specifications relative to disclosed inventions, distinguishing existing claims from identified prior art, claim drafting, participating in examiner interviews, and assisting with responses to the USPTO.

The Patent Professional Intern will work closely with, and at the direction of, a USPTO registered patent attorney or agent mentor in the IBM Patent Center. The Patent Professional Intern will also interact with the wider IBM legal team, both internal and external to the Patent Center, and with IBM inventors.
