Job description

This position resides in Markham , Ontario and is a 16 (internship) month work term commencing May 2020 . It is mandatory that all applicants are enrolled in full-time studies at a post-secondary institution and returning to full-time studies upon completion of the work term.

The IBM Toronto Lab, located in Markham Ontario, is one of the biggest R&D facilities in Canada. LinuxONE is IBM's enterprise grade server build on IBM Z (s390x) architecture; the backbone of the financial, retail, travel and insurance industries. IBM has been a leader in open-source since the late 1990's by participating in hundreds of open-source projects and communities as well as setting the tone for open-source adoption in the enterprise.

We currently have an opening for a 16-month student work term, commencing May 2020, on the Linux open-source ecosystem team.

In this role, you will be responsible to port the latest versions of open-source applications to multiple releases of SUSE, Ubuntu and RedHat Enterprise Linux running on LinuxONE. Typical student work involves debugging failures (compile, runtime and test), develop code fixes and new test cases, as well as upstream patches to the open-source community.

The ecosystem team works closely with many communities to enable open-source technologies on LinuxONE. Focus areas include modern programming languages, DevOps tools, databases, blockchain technology, analytics, AI and cloud infrastructure. In this role you will grow your skills across the open-source ecosystem and sharpen your skills using the Linux development stack.

This position is only open to students registered in a Canadian University or College program, who have completed a minimum of 2 years of their degree or diploma program, and who must be returning to full-time study upon the completion of the temporary IBM work term.

This role will involve working with technology that is covered by Export Regulations sanctions. If you are a Foreign National from any of the following US sanctioned countries (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria) on a work permit, you are not eligible for employment in this position.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

·  Co-op or internship program enrollment is mandatory
