Job description
Recent significant advances in computer intelligence, interactivity and cognitive neuroscience hold major implications for impacting all forms of learning (formal, non-formal and informal). Watson Education Unit, as part of a broader IBM effort to invest significantly in education transformation, is building up a broad, multi-disciplinary organization at the intersection of cognitive computing, adaptive interactivity and cognitive neuroscience to help define and lead this emerging area. Further, the teams are expected to interact with and partner across IBM Research Global Labs, Product Offering and Delivery teams.
The technology initiative will be conducted at the intersection of machine learning, natural language processing and adaptive interactivity including emerging technologies like virtual and augmented reality, tangible user interfaces e.g. haptics, and brain computer interaction (BCI). The IBM Watson platform of technologies will be used as an essential platform along with IBM big data, cloud and mobile capabilities. Differentiating applications will be built to motivate learners and deliver measurable learning outcome.
We're seeking a passionate and innovative machine learning R&D engineer, who constantly push the limits and has a portfolio to prove it. You will lead the development process from brainstorming to shipping the models.
Location
· The Somers, New York location is preferred, but we will consider highly qualified candidates from other locations in North America.
Required
· Semantic text mining or natural language processing
· Hadoop or other MapReduce implementation experience
· Ability to build and interpret probabilistic models of complex, high-dimensional systems
· Experience with database technologies such as SQL or NoSQL
· Solid programming experience utilizing Java, C, C++ or Python
· Delivered models in high-stakes information retrieval and statistical analysis, e.g. Bioinformatics, Fraud Detection, Education
· MS in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or related technical field
Preferred
· PhD degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or related technical field
· Delivered models used for Recommended Systems
