Position Summary

The Weather Channel's digital-first news desk is the beating heart of our newsroom. We are seeking an aggressive assignment desk editor to join our growing team of meteorologists, news reporters, writers, and video editors.

The ideal candidate understands that the best footage can come from sources ranging from an Instagram account based across the globe to the local news station next door. He or she knows how make contact, and license the photos and video footage that tell the story.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

Responsibilities

Facilitate the news gathering process and ensure comprehensive coverage of all news stories

Develop and monitor journalistic and editorial elements of news gathering, with a strong focus on acquiring local tv news footage
Utilize social media platforms to keep up to date with breaking 
news, and acquire user-generated content from around the globe

Dispatch field reporters and video journalists 

Communicate with productions staff on the status of coverage and stories 

Develop and cultivate contacts within the community for news stories
