Job description
IBM Research has a position open for a Cryogenics Engineer.
This position will be responsible for working with dilution refrigerators and microwave electronic circuits, which are used for quantum computing technology research. Candidate will take direction from and support a team of scientists and engineers including setup of dilution refrigerators with experiments to test new hardware designs, provide measurement data and design performance data. Daily responsibilities and activities will include: assembling, disassembling, and cycling cryo units; developing and improving a set of standard operating procedures, creating and maintaining process documents, technical troubleshooting and maintenance of the experimental systems.
This position requires practical "hands-on" experience with electro-mechanical systems, (ideally cryogenic systems), implementing and troubleshooting designs. Responsibilities include assembly, servicing and troubleshooting of cryogenic heat exchange systems, scientific instruments, and complex electro-mechanical assemblies. Skills include meticulous attention to detail in building sensitive precision assemblies, materials and techniques at mK temperatures, and understanding of vacuum technology.
Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering with 1-5 years of applicable work experience is required. Candidate must be capable of working independently with minimal supervision, but also be highly effective in a team environment.
