Cloud Systems Administrator - Linux / Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM)

Job description
IBM Cloud Managed Application Services is looking for a Linux / Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM) Systems Administrator who can join our global engineering and delivery team and actively engage with the existing team to manage, maintain, deploy, troubleshoot and support servers within a mixed customer environment residing on an enterprise-scale, managed cloud solution. The candidate will be part of a team providing steady state support and operations for the Cloud infrastructure and/or major customers migrating production workloads into a managed cloud offering (Infrastructure-as-a-Service). The team will provide support across multiple Linux / OVM environments hosted on the IBM Cloud. Candidates must be available occasionally to perform planned off-hours changes per approved change/maintenance windows, off-hours interventions as needed to remediate high severity incidents and restore service, as well as on-call support by rotation.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Interacting and working with both internal and external customers on issue resolution and on-boarding procedures;
- Performing system administration activities on Linux / OVM systems;
- Managing systems towards compliance with corporate security policies;
- Engage in 24/7 support periodically to assist in critical production issues to maintain the systems;
- Working with a ticketing software (Incidents, Service requests and Change management);
- Configuring, monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting Linux / OVM guests and/or physical servers;
- Performing audit tasks on Cloud servers (hosts or guest VMs);
- Creating documentation and procedures (SOPs). Guiding and training junior colleagues;
- Communicating with and offering support to dedicated customers and other support teams located across the globe;
- Compliance with SLAs for tickets, projects and tasks;

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Proven experience as Linux and Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM) systems engineer/administrator in high availability 24/7 production environments - including installation, configuration, maintenance (apply patches, fixes, drivers, firmware upgrades, etc.), backup/restore and performance tuning;
- Ability to write shell scripts to automate various Systems Administrator tasks;
- Experience configuring virtual network using bonding and bridging in Oracle VM;
- Experience creating and managing OVM repositories;
- Assist various IT staff such as Oracle DBAs, Network Administrators, Programmers, etc. to install, configure, monitor and tune their software running on the UNIX, LINUX, and OVM servers;
- Experience with network administration services like DNS, DHCP, NFS, NTP, LDAP, HTTP, FTP;
- Good command of networking concepts and configuration;
- Experience using ticketing systems;
- General understanding of ITIL/IT Service Management concepts and DevOps;
