Job description

This role is a multifaceted DevOps software engineering role within the SoftLayer, an IBM Company Cloud Object Storage development team.

It requires proficient knowledge of Software Engineering skills, following well-defined coding practices to ensure proper handling of customer core data and metadata. Software Architecture knowledge and proficiency is required to understand requirements, design, and develop Highly Available Cloud Services for on-boarding, off-boarding, and managing customer accounts and all data stored, handled, and transferred within and across Live, Cached, and Archived Data Levels.

As we increase our services capabilities and Data Centers for Public, Private, and Hybrid Cloud, the customer demands and requirements will increase. Live integrations and debugging reported issues demand very strong problem determination and issues resolution skills. Agile Development skills are required to design, develop, and integrate features and respond to the dynamic nature of Cloud Services. Proficiency with Test Driven Development is required to ensure all Minimal Viable Product iterations have clearly defined quality measures and that test cases are consistently written and executed in a timely fashion. Secure Engineering Practices are critical to Cloud Services to ensure front-to-end protection of Customer Data, Cloud Services, and the Underlying Hardware Infrastructure. Effective written and verbal communications skills are required within our Squad-based team structure to define, obtain, and develop Application Programming Interface (API) requirements for both upstream and downstream development teams and services. Solid User Interface design and implementation, built on top of a strong back-end storage engine, provides the crucial front-end customer look and feel and ease of use necessary to complete the offerings.

In order to meet the highly technical, and fast-paced development we need to hire and retain highly skilled and motivated software engineers to develop the services to compete and win in the Cloud.

The Cloud Object Storage (COS) development team operates in a fast-paced Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) model firmly built upon principles of Agile Development, Development and Operations Unification (DevOps), and Test Driven Development (TDD).
