We’re looking for a Materials Lead to join our pre-opening team — someone who’s organised, proactive, and ready to roll up their sleeves. From setting up inventory systems and coordinating supplier deliveries to supporting F&B, housekeeping, and engineering needs, you'll play a vital role in keeping the hotel running smoothly behind the scenes.
This is a full-time role for someone who thrives on precision, collaboration, and building efficient systems from the ground up—ready to support a hotel experience that’s anything but ordinary.

About the Role
As Materials Team Leader, you’ll play a key role in the pre-opening setup of Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney — laying the groundwork for our purchasing and stock control systems before the first guest even walks through the door. This is a hands-on, full-time role where your attention to detail, commercial insight, and collaborative approach will directly impact how the hotel runs day to day.
You’ll manage procurement across all departments, coordinate supplier relationships, lead stock takes, and ensure materials are sourced efficiently and in line with brand standards. Working closely with F&B, Housekeeping, Engineering, and Finance, you’ll also be ready to support the operations team as needed — helping to ensure seamless service and a smooth opening.
Some Key Responsibilities
· Lead procurement activities across all hotel departments, ensuring timely sourcing of quality materials in line with brand standards and budget.
· Support the pre-opening setup by establishing purchasing systems, vendor relationships, and inventory management processes.
· Coordinate and conduct monthly stocktakes and inventory reporting, particularly across key operational areas such as F&B and Housekeeping.
· Work closely with the Finance team to ensure accurate cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting.
· Maintain strong supplier relationships and negotiate favourable terms to support operational efficiency.Ensure compliance with Hyatt purchasing guidelines and sustainability commitments.
· Liaise with operations, engineering, and front-of-house teams to forecast needs and resolve supply-related issues.
· Provide general support to other departments when needed to help maintain smooth operations and enhance the guest experience.
· Ensure storage, receiving, and inventory areas are well organised and meet safety and cleanliness standards.
· Continuously seek improvements in procurement processes to support long-term operational success.

What you will bring to the role:
You come from a purchasing, procurement, or cost control background — ideally within a hotel or hospitality environment — and you’re ready to bring that expertise into an exciting new opening. You thrive in a start-up setting, enjoy working across departments, and have the systems know-how to help get a hotel up and running from scratch.

· Has solid, hands-on experience in procurement or purchasing — with a clear understanding of sourcing, stock control, and supplier management.
· Is commercially savvy, highly organised, and has strong attention to detail.
· Can manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced, pre-opening environment.
· Works collaboratively with other teams and communicates with clarity and confidence.
· Is open to supporting other departments when required to help deliver a smooth operation and positive guest experiences.
· Brings energy, initiative, and a solutions-focused mindset to every challenge.
