We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Vice President - Chief Control Office - Wholesale Business Risk CoE
Principal responsibilities
· Oversight of Non-financial risk across multiple Investment Banking products and ensuring day to day operations include these. Demonstrating compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations, whilst ensuring compliance with regulatory mandated local variances and managing regulatory.
· Act as a nodal point for NFR related activity across different product categories; Facilitate the scoping and performing risk and control assessments, identification of control weaknesses and their remediation plans
· Interpret Non-financial risk data and trends to identify thematic risks, associated issues for the business and their mitigation progress. Identify trends to anticipate emerging risks that the business should take action on
· Ensuring ongoing effectiveness of New Product due diligence and post implementation approval processes whilst maintaining an accurate and robust product inventory suitable for HSBC’s customer base thus negating the impact of a conduct risks transpiring through miss selling scenarios.
· Actively challenge poor, inefficient or excessive controls, related tasks and behaviors; Supports the adoption of globally consistent policies, procedures and practices; Facilitates the provision of timely and insightful supervisory frameworks and metrics (KRIs/KPIs) based on globally consistent metrics
· Engage with the first line stakeholders, second line risk stewards as well as third line audit function to align overall non-financial risk status for the business.
· Develop and maintain effective Risk Profile Management which includes proactive management of live business risks, RCA support, independent validation of continuous monitoring plans and KRI monitoring.
· Actively develop key relationships across GB CCO globally to support the promotion of an effective and forward-looking risk NFR management framework and culture.
· Identify and share NFR management best practice across WCOO, crucially to engage with the wider CoE to drive efficiencies and replay innovation back into GB CCO globally.
· Provide proactive and constructive feedback/updates; Ability to work across teams located in different time zones with differing requirements and timings for delivery; Facilitate the scoping and performing risk and control assessments, identification of control weaknesses and their remediation plans.
· Interpret non-financial risk data and trends to identify thematic risks, associated issues for the business and their mitigation progress. Identify trends to anticipate emerging risks that the business should take action on.
Requirements
· Experience directly within Investment Banking, MSS or Global Banking business in a 1LOD role and/or Commercial Office is essential; Understanding of Non-Financial risks including ESG, associated framework, governance requirements and awareness of lead regulators (e.g. PRA, HKMA) expectations.
· Ability to work across teams located in different time zones with differing requirements and timings for delivery A continuous improvement and innovative mindset and a targeted focus on cost of control e.g. system enforced process and control automation to remove reliance on people and manual process as the primary means of remediation
· Exposure to Non-Financial Risk Management, Risk Management Governance, or Risk Stewardship roles would be advantageous; Prior experience of working in a global matrixed organisation and dealing with complex stakeholder groups
· Ability to develop trusted adviser status with key Executive stakeholders through SME expertise, industry experience and track record; ability to understand desired Business outcomes across the matrix and ability to translate in to well communicated and clearly articulated strategies.
· Leadership in driving change and transformation programs through a Global organisation – both to own teams and structures and jointly with the Business through supporting and delivering changing workplace strategies.
· Knowledge of the external environment - regulatory, political, competitors and market; Proven ability to articulate complex issues concisely and in clear language; Strong technical, risk management and analytical skills to Non-Financial Risk Management, Risk Management Governance, or Risk Stewardship roles would be advantageous
· Prior experience of working in a global matrixed organisation and dealing with complex stakeholder groups; Strong presentation skills, ability to develop clear and succinct presentations and reports for senior management and governance forums
· Excellent English writing and oral skills are mandatory; Proactive and curious to build key relationships, identify areas of focus and continuous learning ; High level of drive and self-motivation to ensure delivery of a broad range of outputs simultaneously in a matrix environment
· Ability to work independently, multi-task, filter information and prioritize multiple demands; Capacity to process high volumes of complex information and synthesize key themes and issues; Proactive and curious to build key relationships, identify areas of focus and continuous learning.
· Sound relationship management, collaboration and influencing skills with experience of positive, challenging interactions with senior executives across multiple functions
· Ability to use initiative to resolve issues, whilst dealing with a diverse range of stakeholders and team members, distributed across functions and locations; Experience of building and maintaining strong working relationships across a globally distributed matrix organization
