Role purpose

This role within LAM Compliance Assurance (CA) is responsible for contributing to and implementing the ongoing strategic activities of the CA function for the businesses in LAM. CA is responsible for second line assurance activity over all compliance risk-related controls, whether operated within the First Line of Defense (1LOD) or Second Line of Defense (2LOD).  As a result, the Role Holder will formulate an end-to-end view on the effectiveness of the organisation’s Compliance risk management.

This role will report to the Regional Head of Compliance Assurance Mexico and LAM and in some cases will be expected to deputize for them.

LAM CA will provide insight into the effectiveness of Compliance policies and procedures through the identification, reporting and escalation of issues requiring senior management attention. This is accomplished through ongoing testing of the effectiveness of key controls; deep dive and thematic reviews in response to compliance requirements, senior management requests or identified issues; and assessing the effectiveness of the execution of major compliance-related programmes through independent review and testing.

The Role Holder will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with senior regional business management and other functional stakeholders. In addition, they will be required to attend to attend both regional and country committees, as defined locally.

The Role Holder will have direct line management responsibility for a team of Assurance professionals within Mexico. This involves managing local resource and costs in-line with agreed budgets and ensuring the necessary resources are in place to meet CA objectives and completion of the review plan. 

Main activities

·  Execute the CA strategy for the LAM CA function, assessing the effectiveness of Compliance controls in the
·  Lead LAM CA ensuring that all standards, policies, procedures remain fit for purpose and subject to continuous assessment.
·  Provide subject matter expertise to and advise immediate team, in the identification of appropriate review scope and delivery of assurance activities.
·  Inform Risk Owners, Control Owners and Risk Stewards of the design and operational effectiveness of the controls within their area of oversight and control, helping to identify if remediation is required.
·  Proactively monitor and identify key emerging risks and/or trends to ensure ongoing development of the Assurance programme to address them.
·  Drive consistent reporting and escalation of issues identified through CA activities. 
·  Operate within the Risk Management Framework (RMF), where possible, aligning for example to risk assessment methodology and prioritisation of risks, controls and issues.
·  Discharge the relevant accountabilities as set out in the Group Standards Manual and applicable FIMs.

Requirements

·  Extensive , Regulatory Compliance and Financial Crime knowledge, with extensive experience in assurance or testing activities
·  Relevant external financial services qualification.
·  Clear understanding of regulatory and financial crime compliance risk within the global financial services industry.
·  Demonstrable track record in leading in a complex global organisation.
·  Excellent people manager with proven people management capabilities
·  Capable of building positive and resilient partnerships with key senior stakeholders.  
·  Lateral thinker with an ability to interpret and solve complex issues.
·  Proven leader with experience in driving a large, complex function located in multiple jurisdictions.
·  Excellent communication skills with very strong inter-personal and influencing skills.
·  Track record of leading independently and working autonomously
·  Strong decision-making capability.
·  Strong English language skills (written and spoken) and fluency in local language (written and spoken) preferred.
