Global Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group’s reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.  

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Cost Management Manager.  

Principal Responsibilities

·  Ensuring a robust cost management approach for the ASP Legal function, covering annual planning, ongoing cost and headcount management, budget tracking and forecasting, and management information reporting
·  Supporting the Head of Legal Operations, ASP, in providing leadership and support to the in-market Legal teams across the region, enabling the function to deliver against the strategic cost management outcomes within the global framework
·  Developing a comprehensive understanding of Legal expenditure and providing advice and data to support the effective planning for the function
·  Actively managing the financial and headcount plans for the department, including forecasts and actuals, to support data-driven management decisions in resourcing and investment prioritisation
·  Managing offshore support resources, providing training and guidance to enable the effective provision of cost management support to the region
·  Supporting the Legal transformation programme through both proactively identifying opportunities for process and control improvements locally, as well as driving the rollout of global change initiatives within the department
·  Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and establishing best practices across the function to deliver optimal financial outcomes in an evolving landscape
·  Building strong working relationships at different seniorities across the matrix organisation, adopting a joined-up approach to execute processes at pace
·  Providing management support to the Legal function, facilitating the effective management and coordination of day-to-day operational activities within the department
·  Ensuring adequate operational control and risk management by actively overseeing the implementation of relevant policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
·  Continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role, taking account of the evolving operating environment, and escalate identified issues and recommended mitigations to senior management

Requirements

·  University graduate preferably with a degree in Management, Accounting or Finance
·  Strong knowledge and experience in Cost Management within a financial services organisation or legal operations context
·  Attention to detail and the ability to distil varied data into information
·  High degree of drive and motivation to ensure delivery of objectives in a timely, efficient and effective manner
·  Aptitude for analysing complex issues to identify and assess the impacts for the Bank and its customers, translating these into tangible goals and actions
·  Excellent relationship management and influencing skills across a matrix organisation
·  Strong and effective communications skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues concisely
·  Attention to detail combined with strong delivery focus and ability to meet aggressive timeframes with quality results
·  Strong understanding of risk management by incorporating risk considerations in all activities
·  Adaptability, flexibility, and a self-initiated approach to change and developing market demands and opportunities
·  Being a positive role model, exemplifying the HSBC values in conduct and behaviour
