We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as  Financial Controller, HSBC Life Hong Kong.

Responsibilities:

The Financial Controller is a critical role for HSBC Life, responsible for the successful delivery of all aspects of financial reporting. The role holder will manage: 

·  All operational accounting processes for HSBC Life covering period end close, accounting controls and balance sheet substantiation.  
·  All accounting issues and judgements, implementing solutions for new products and accounting requirements.
·  Local regulatory reporting, ensuring timely and quality delivery.
·  Group and local external financial reporting, ensuring timely and quality delivery.
·  The implementation of global processes in operational accounting activities.
·  Ensuring period end close is achieved in line with required metrics of timing, quality and efficiency.
·  Managing a team of across onshore and offshore locations to support delivery.
·  Provide leadership across the HSBC Life Hong Kong function to ensure all deliveries are met.
·  Key lead in the relationship with external auditors, local regulators and will also be expected to present to local Audit Committees and the Board.
·  Provide support to the CFO in local compliance and regulatory issues and will be able to deputise for the CFO.
·  Act as an Asian regional representative for the global team function, and oversee certain regional tasks including regional holding companies located in Hong Kong.
·  Ensuring appropriate accounting judgements and treatments are formed for all financial reporting
·  GL is closed efficiently and effectively each month to the required deadlines with all country accounting issues identified and resolved with relevant business areas.
·  GL accounts are owned,  substantiated and reconciled to required Global Finance Standards
·  Financial Statements are reviewed to required standards and reflect the role holders understanding of the business activity.
·  There are robust processes in place to deliver local regulatory reports to the required standard, leading and co-ordinating businesses, Risk and IT to ensure delivery.
·  Key go to contact for country for accounting and regulatory advice.
·  Responsible for ensuring efficient processes deployed in country in line with Global requirements but delivering to country requirements.
·  Manage Customers / Stakeholders including: HSBC Life Hong Kong EXCO,  Global Insurance Finance, Hong Kong Bank Finance teams, HSBC Life Hong Kong Board of Directors and Audit Committee, as well as external and internal auditors,  Local regulators and authorities
·  Role model the 3 Finance Cultural Traits – work as One Finance, be commercial and encourage an ambitious change mindset.
·  Manage Operational Accounting team development, including talent identification, coaching, performance management and succession planning.

Requirements

Requirements:

·  Understanding and experience of insurance financial reporting, in particular IFRS17, HKRBC and BSCR
·  Experience of insurance regulatory reporting, ideally Hong Kong regulatory reporting
·  Ability to communicate complex financial issues confidently to very senior management and line management
·  Recognised relevant professional accountancy or actuarial qualification is essential 
·  Significant financial reporting experience in insurance business
·  Understanding of the dynamics of the financial statements of an insurance company
·  Understanding of complex accounting and actuarial issues
·  Strong awareness of both global and local regulatory environment 
·  Ability to lead a team of qualified professionals, particularly in a pressurised and deadline driven environment
·  Ability to deal with and analyse unstructured problems/queries and to question and challenge existing procedures 
·  Strong awareness of process, IT and data and the ability to drive efficient processes
