Job description
The Direct Channels Development Specialist - Java role is based within Global Commercial Banking Software Delivery.
The role of the Direct Channels Development Specialist - Java is to Work on HSBC's integrated and host-to-host solutions, responsible for delivering strategic initiatives and enhancements to HSBC’s direct e-Channels service - HSBC Connect.
Your responsibilities will include:
Analysis of business requirements and transpose into functional design documentation capable of being implemented in target technology set
Creation / review of architecture and design documentation
Implementation of system enhancements/upgrades
Analysis of new and existing technologies using a structured and independent approach, in order to ensure the appropriateness of all major technology recommendations, fostering re-use and optimising procurement opportunities in the process.
Collaborate with engineering, ITO and ISR to support the implementation and development of solutions.
Managing/tracking/reporting technology risks emerging from technology dispensations, architecture reviews etc.
Ensure compliance with all relevant internal instructions (FIMs, GSMs, circulars) and external regulatory requirements, including the management of operational risk and adherence to the Group's standards of ethical behaviour.
Desired profile
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Relevant product knowledge including knowledge of IBM COBOLCICSDB2 preferable, alongside a variety of other programming & technical knowledge
Experience working in relevant environment/s, i.e. Minimum 7 years combined experience of programming, systems analysis and preferably systems architecture
Experience working in relevant market/context, i.e. working with global and off shore teams
Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. Development Specialist role
Experience of using relevant software packages, i.e. understanding of programming languages (e.g. COBOL or Java), transformation and mapping
Experience working in relevant environment/s, i.e. a good understanding of communication and protocols, security, file and message transfers is desirable but not essential
Experience working in relevant market/context, i.e. experience working on complex enterprise level system architecture, integrated and host to host systems is desirable but not essential
Role relevant qualifications, i.e. TOGAF certification (with preferred ITAC 2 accreditation) is desirable but not essential
Past working experience in a relevant role, i.e. solution architecture is desirable but not essential
A desire to find ways to continually improve the service delivered to customers
A track record of constantly looking for ways to do things better and an excellent understanding of the mechanism necessary to successfully implement change
Both spoken and written communication skills with experience of adapting your style and approach to the audience and message to be delivered
Built effective networks across business areas, developing relationships based on mutual trust and encouraging others to do the same
A track record of making complex business decisions with authority, even in times of ambiguity, considering the potential long term risks and implications
Experience of creating and deploying comprehensive business/operating plans which consistently deliver desired results
In addition to the details listed above, the ideal candidate will be able to engage and communicate with junior developers as well as senior stakeholders, and have experience leading, coordinating and participating in projects from an analysis and design perspective, ensuring that software development life cycle activities are consistent with the direction set by accepted best practices and internal standards
The base location for this role is London, Sheffield, Birmingham.
