Role Summary/Purpose
The Turbine Suitability and Site Optimization Engineer will lead evaluations for wind farms, contribute to process development and execute digital wind strategy for world class wind turbine design and siting. You complete turbine suitability assessments and optimize wind farm design to support new wind turbine proposals and digital wind farm development.
Essential Responsibilities
As an integral part of GE’s Digital Wind Farm engineering team, this critical role in the front end of the business helps us characterize the operating environments for our turbines, assessing energy production as well as mechanical loading capability, and proposing ways to add customer value. As the Turbine Suitability and Site Optimization Engineer, you will:
· Support new wind farm designs through turbine suitability and mechanical loads analysis
· Evaluate Annual Energy Production and suitability constraints as an input to wind farm design and layout Optimization. Develop solutions to increase customer value and enable digital wind farm optimization
· Enhance GE’s digital wind strategy for speed, productivity and accuracy. Code and develop new engineering software tools to evolve the state of the art
· Execute Flex5 (Aeroelastic) simulations to determine product suitability for proposed wind farms. Develop site specific controls solutions to enable turbine suitability in challenging wind regimes
· Assist in the support of customer technical inquiries and communications, as well as review of customer specifications and site data. This includes interface with product teams to facilitate implementation of new WTG offerings & features
· Work closely with new product and platform teams to feedback siting constraints, develop product solutions and support the implementation of new technology
Qualifications/Requirements
· Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science (Mechanical, Electrical, Physics, Atmospheric Science, or related) from an accredited college or university
· Minimum 3 years of engineering experience
Desired Characteristics
· Experience in wind resource assessment, site screening and micrositing in the wind farm development process
· Experience with Flex5, Bladed, FAST, ADAMs or other aeroelastic wind turbine design simulation software
· Software development and automation / digitalization experience. Python, R, Matlab.
· Experience designing and implementing digitization solutions to improve internal fulfillment processes and workflows
· Experience with layout optimization for wind farms
· Experience providing technical support to sales, commercial and marketing functions. Customer negotiations for technical and commercial topics
· Strong written, oral, & presentation skills
· Ability and willingness to accept challenges outside of technical expertise / comfort zone
· Global experience with proven ability to work with international teams
· Self Motivated, Team player, with Demonstrated Creativity and Fulfillment
· Master’s Degree or equivalent Advanced Degree from an accredited college or university
· PhD from an accredited college or university
· Strong proficiency in English, with fluency in other languages than english
