The Senior Engineer works within the Advanced Design & Development group of the GE Hitachi Engineering organization. The AD&D team supports the development of advanced nuclear applications through technical leadership on early phase projects and delivering high caliber analysis of complex, first-of-a-kind technologies. AD&D is an interdisciplinary group of problem-solvers with high aptitude and flexibility. The Senior Engineer is a subject matter expert in the mechanical design of reactor core components. He/she ensures technical rigor, provides mentorship, and helps define and improve internal processes.
Impacts approaches, projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working. Impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team. Has significant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

The applicant should possess extensive knowledge of the mechanical design of reactor core internals. This applicant well be proficient in the following tasks:

  • Offer subject matter expertise on nuclear component design, provide technical reviews, and act as the discipline lead and mentor within the team.
  • Produces or provides oversite of design deliverables created in compliance with all applicable regulatory, quality, and company/project requirements.
  • Provides accountability for design deliverables such as specifications, mechanical analyses, and engineering drawings.
  • Generates design and/or testing requirements and creates high quality technical reports and diagrams for review by both customers and regulators.
  • Delegates work to support teams and serves as a mentor as required to develop and maintain technical talent.
  • Devises innovative solutions and performs confirmatory analyses to support business initiatives and develop new products using traditional engineering mechanics as well as design-to-cost principals and manufacturability.
  • Intentionally works to share subject matter expertise, enforces procedures, and maintains technical rigor while maintaining a questioning attitude.
  • Creates well-written, organized documentation to support design adequacy.
  • Maintain an active role in developing and defining state of the art mechanical design of advanced core and fuel assemblies.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum BS in mechanical engineering or closely-related field
  • At least 10 years cumulative knowledge of nuclear fuel and core component hardware design, fuel performance technology, manufacturing processes for reactor core applications, mechanical and structural analysis, and fuel/core integrated performance characterization.

Eligibility Requirements

  • The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.

Desired Characteristics

  • Master’s Degree in a relevant technical discipline
  • Mastery of engineering mechanics and design principles with specialized knowledge of governing ASME design requirements.
  • Highly competent in CAD and engineering drawing/drafting.
  • Expertise in geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T) with basic knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes.
  • Proven experience in new product development or FOAK engineering in a fast/agile environment.
  • Prior experience working on elevated temperature reactor designs including material science phenomenon in a radioactive environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives in a team environment and a willingness to own challenges and find solutions to new problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate technical content.
  • Aptitude for teaching and dedication to mentorship.

The base pay range for this position is $112k-160k. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on 9/30/2024.

 

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
