Based at GE Vernova Power Conversion Chennai site the Lead Commissioning Engineer’s role is an exciting opportunity for an action-oriented individual with deep technical foundation of Power Conversion equipment. You will be able to leverage your technical knowledge to directly support customers through commissioning, maintaining, servicing Rotating Machines (Motors and Generators) state-of-the-art products and solutions across the globe, while you collaborate across the globe with key functional teams and enhance your strategic business acumen. The job will require frequent traveling up to 90 % to various client sites in India and globally.

Job Description

The Lead Commissioning Specialist develops practical and innovative ways to identify and meet goals.  In this role you are responsible for work that is less defined in scope, utilize your understanding and experience to execute business objectives, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

·  Primary GE representative, lead site on assigned customer or project.
·  Commissioning of the Rotating Machine in business segments such as Power Plants, Metals, Marine, Oil & Gas, Material handling, etc.
·  Provide site leadership, technical direction, and assistance to the customer, user, and other GE field personnel in the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of assigned product lines
·  Perform on-site installation of Rotating Machine equipment and ongoing preventive maintenance, repair and calibration after installation
·  Accurately document as commissioned documents for record keeping
·  Responding to requests for emergency repairs and services to troublesome equipment
·  Provide technical instruction and assistance to customer representatives regarding installation, operation, calibration, repair and maintenance at customer's sites
·  Provide leadership and technical direction to skilled labor performing work on customer sites
·  Knowledge to troubleshoot and provide routine maintenance checkout for wide range of equipment vintage
·  Apply Six Sigma analytical tools to assist the customer with proactive reliability and management. Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
·  Assist customers with improving reliability and reducing cost of ownership
·  Provide single point of contact to the customer, customer team, and all other GE stakeholders
·  Assist the factory with data collection and timely reporting to facilitate fleet performance analysis, including marketing intelligence and sales opportunities for services, and support.
·  Service readiness: Prepare material lists, ensure parts and equipment are available and of the correct quality, and coordinate with other teams.
·  Documentation and reporting: Document work performed, track site issues, and support sales by providing technical authority for bids and proposals. Provide and assist quality team

Required skills and qualifications

·  Technical expertise: A degree in electrical engineering or a related field is often required.
·  Experience: Previous experience in field service, particularly with rotating machine (motors and generators) is preferred.
·  Skills: Strong communication, problem-solving, customer engagement, and the ability to work independently are essential. Proficiency in field diagnostics, service management platforms, and digital tools is necessary.
·  Electrical engineering bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited university or college
·  Solid understanding and Hands-on experience and knowledge of Motors and Generators
·  Comfortable to sail on marine vessels if needed and remain offshore for defined number of days.
·  Willing to travel including distant in-country or aboard limited duration visits and with short notice in advance.
·  Assist customer with spare parts, services ordering & issues resolution.

Customer and on-site service:  

·  Act as the main point of contact for customers, performing service work according to GE Vernova standards.

Technical execution:  

·  Large Power Capacity Motors and Generators: Induction Motors, Synchronous Motors Turbine Generators (1 MW to 50 MW).
·  Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning: Initial setup and testing before operation, ensuring systems meet specifications.
·  Troubleshooting and Site Services: Identifying and resolving issues in the field. Providing on-site support
·  Service Overhauling: Comprehensive maintenance and repair of motors and generators
·  Field Service: Onshore and offshore customer sites.
·  Technical Inspections and Solutions: Soft foot and alignment, bearing inspection, Antifriction and SLEEVE), Vibration analysis, In situ balancing, Rotor runout, Lube oil and rotor jacking systems, Heat Exchangers, Auxiliaries (Bearing RTD, winding RTD, space heaters, etc.)
·  Technical Assistance and Supervision: On-site guidance and training, Proper operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
·  On-Site Parts Replacement and Testing: Hands-on replacement of parts, Electrical testing (Insulation resistance, Polarization index, winding resistance, etc.)

Customer engagement:  

·  Advise clients on how to improve performance, handle complaints professionally, and maintain strong customer relationships.
·  Able to interface at upper management and peers’ levels of the organization both internally and externally in clear and methodical manner.
·  Root cause analysis and generate reports in case of equipment malfunction or failures to identify/analyze any undesirable trends. Complete site documentations such as weekly safety update, installations check lists, pre-commissioning, and commissioning procedures.
·  Provide management with complete and prompt information and report regarding safety & project/service status, customer or equipment problems, and failures.

·  Maintain high standards of EHS during all on-site activities and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement. 
·  Adhere with company Health and Safety policies and work in safe and best practice manner to ensure the wellbeing of personnel and equipment are not compromised.
