Responsibilities:
· Perform system studies for FACTS equipment sizing, including short circuit analysis, pony motor starting analysis, dynamic stability, insulation coordination, transient recovery voltage, transient over voltage, ferroresonance, dynamic performance studies, power system oscillation damping studies and neutral grounding resistor studies;
· Perform NERC compliance studies, including PRC-19, PRC-24, PRC-25, PRC-26 and model validation studies;
· Perform excitation setting calculations and studies;
· Perform Real Time Digital Simulation (RTDS) testing of protection and control systems;
· Apply expertise in large (50 to 300 MVA) synchronous machines, in theory, operation, and installation to develop and optimize synchronous condenser solutions. Experience in synchronous condenser applications is preferred, but generator or motor application is also acceptable;
· Support sales and business development activities in pre-RFQ stages by presenting FACTS offerings to prospective customers and discuss possible solutions that fit the customer requirements;
· Support the preparation of tender packages for FACTS solutions;
· Analyse customer requirements; perform technical and commercial analysis to optimize system design and synchronous condenser machine selection;
· Participate in technical contract negotiations with prospective customers;
· Prepare documentation and maintain a knowledge database of technical design processes, issues, and resolution outcomes;
· Mentor and coach other engineers in systems studies skills. Build technical talent pipeline.
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering;
· Previous experience in the area;
· Experience with other FACTS technologies (e.g. SVC, STATCOM, series compensation FSC, SSSC, TCSC);
· Synchronous machine detailed modelling experience;
· English language fluency;
· Experience in installation, field-testing, and commissioning of HV equipment, with a commitment to safe work habits;
· Availability to work in hybrid model in São Paulo/SP;
Desired Characteristics:
· Proficiency in using electrical system modelling software (e.g., PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, EasyPower, ASPEN OneLiner, PSCAD, ATP-EMTP or equivalent) for complex studies;
· Understanding of grid-forming controls and virtual synchronous machine algorithms;
· Participation in industry working groups (IEEE, Cigre, IEC);
· Knowledge of and experience using IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards and codes, with the ability to engineer design packages without explicit customer specifications;
· Knowledge of Real-Time Digital Simulation (RTDS) testing.
