Job description

About the job

Joining Sainsbury's as a Healthy and Sustainable Diets Manager means being part of a dynamic team that is committed to delivering on the core value of Good Food for All of Us. Healthy and sustainable diets is central to our strategy and driving healthier purchases is integral to our business priorities; we're on a serious mission to drive healthier choices for our customers and you'll be at the heart of driving positive change. You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with a variety of food system stakeholders, lead government health consultation responses, and shape strategies and initiatives that impact over 25 million customers. This role offers a platform for continuous learning, innovative thinking, and impactful decision-making, all within a supportive and inclusive environment where your contributions can make a real difference in the food industry.

What you'll do

As the Healthy and Sustainable Diets Manager at Sainsbury's, you will be responsible for helping to lead and deliver the company's healthy and sustainable diets strategy, ensuring key internal and external health targets and milestones are met. You will help provide nutrition leadership and direction to internal and external partners, act as a voice for Sainsbury’s and help guide our strategic priorities in areas that are often leading and ambiguous. You will be happy to engage across the food system with a variety of actors (suppliers, trade bodies, not-for-profits and think tanks) to help us collectively lead food systems transformation. Additionally, you may be asked to lead government health consultation responses – including the internal business engagement on regulatory changes. Your role will also involve owning the development of nutrition policies and standards, working closely with data teams to track progress including reporting against relevant investor benchmarks. And, as a more experienced member of the team, you may be asked to help support others in the team on research projects, health-related trials and with mentoring more generally. It is a demanding and diverse role where you will have great opportunities across the whole food system so you will be delivering at pace with passion and pragmatism.

Who you are

You will hold a degree in Nutrition or related science or post-graduate qualification along with a significant proven track record in a similar role in the food industry. Your ability to navigate complex projects and legislative frameworks, while balancing scientific credibility with commercial needs showcases your critical thinking skills and adaptability in delivering evidence-based solutions at pace. You will have a solid understanding of sustainable diets, relevant investor health benchmarks and national and devolved government priorities. As a result, you will have a proven ability to apply food laws and the latest scientific and third sector thinking to retailing strategies, nutrition communications and retailing environments. With exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, coupled with a proactive mindset and attention to detail, you lead by example in driving health initiatives and shaping Sainsbury's nutrition policies towards achieving the core value of Good Food for All of Us.
