What you do:
As a Sr. Accountant you will focus on investment accounting and will account for all transactions related to invested assets, including bonds, structured assets, loans, short-term and derivatives for Allianz Life and related companies. Working closely with the investment operations and financial reporting areas, you will report monthly and quarterly investment information to management and prepare external reporting to include quarterly and year-end Statutory and IFRS investment reports, while facilitating a strong internal control environment. A portion of your time will be spent focusing on researching and implementing new investment transactions in collaboration with other areas including accounting policy and transaction compliance, investment operations, asset managers, financial planning and analysis and financial reporting. Additional focus will be on automating manual processes to be more efficient using SQL and Excel based tools and generative AI. You will report to the Investment Accounting Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reconcile complex journal entries between the investment accounting system (PAM) and general ledger (SAP) for a variety of instruments across multiple investment portfolios.
- Prepare and distribute ad hoc and recurring management reporting and analysis tailored to support the needs of financial planning and reporting areas, investment managers, and non-financial users.
- Research complex investment transactions and related accounting issues and ensure technical compliance with multiple-basis accounting guidance and other applicable regulations.
- Act as the lead or have a significant role on a variety of key projects while balancing competing priorities.
- Design repeatable, controlled, and efficient processes used in implementing new investment transactions and reporting requirements, with a focus on automating process wherever possible.
- Prepare manual journal entries, account reconciliations, financial reporting and financial analysis.
What you bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
- 2+ years of experience required
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency working with large volumes of data (creating and using pivots, filters, sort, if, sum, vlookups, sumproduct, Power Query and Power BI)
- Intermediate to advanced SQL coding skills
- Familiarity or some experience with any of the following preferred: PAM for Securities, PAM for Mortgages, SAP, Essbase
- Solid understanding of Statutory and IFRS accounting principles as well as internal controls
- Excellent organizational, decision-making, problem-solving, communication, interpersonal and technical skills
- Proven ability to work independently under minimal supervision
- You must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and will not require immigration sponsorship for visa status now or in the future (e.g. H1-B, L-1, TN, etc). If you are currently on CPT/OPT, you are ineligible due to the need for future immigration sponsorship.
