Airbus, the world's leading Aircraft manufacturer has exciting new job opportunities to join its Engineering teams at Filton, Bristol.
Core activities include the design, engineering and support for Airbus wings, fuel systems and landing gear Integration. We develop our people to work on systems, structures and aerodynamics research, development and test facilities.

A vacancy has arisen within Wing Repairs for the position of Stress Engineer in Airbus Filton. Working in conjunction with the other members of the multi-disciplinary team, this role will ensure the customer services and product organisations are supported by creating and maintaining solutions to ensure all activities are completed within time scales to meet customer requirements whilst ensuring tasks are completed to time, cost and quality.

The work will involve liaison with Fatigue & Damage Tolerance, Design and appropriate Airbus departments in Toulouse and Filton, to come up with optimum design solutions for the airline customer and to define maintenance programs.

Desired profile

Tasks & accountabilities

o Carry out static stressing calculations to assess design solutions using standard hand and computer methods. Also interrogate drawing systems, raising and coordination of documentation.
o Liaison with the ESWC Chief Stress Engineer in order to ensure that methods, assumptions, data and procedures reflect on-going developments.
o Support on-going local improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency through methods and process improvements.
o Ensure all tasks and activities required for Repair Engineering are correctly planned, monitored and executed to achieve customer time scales.
o Correct interpretation of Statement of Works so that engineering activities meet with customer services/programmes requirements.
o With good customer skills, provide responses for routine repairs queries, giving advice and guidance as required within Airbus Operations Ltd and SOREO on repair matters.
o Create, compile and co-ordinate engineering documentation to achieve valid technical data for repairs.
o In conjunction with the Repair Design and F&DT Engineers, be a member of an integrated engineering team, ensuring its strategy, policy and direction is maintained.
o Ensure adherence to airworthiness regulations, relevant design principles, processes, methods and manufacturing capabilities guidelines

Required skills

As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

o HNC/HND qualification and experience in an engineering environment;
o Static analysis of aircraft structures using a broad range of standard hand and computer methods;
o An understanding of the fundamental method of analysis for static stressing and an ability to develop these methods;
o Ability to liaise/negotiate with Design/Production, Customer Services and risk sharing partners;
o Good working knowledge of Word, Excel and Powerpoint;
o Be conversant with the technical requirements for designing repairs;
o Good interpersonal and communication skills;
o The ability to translate customer requirements into operational deliverables and prioritise.

Preferred Skills

o Working knowledge of all Airbus Structures would be a benefit;
o Some knowledge of the application of FE analysis;
o Stress Engineering background, Aircraft preferred;
o Already holding stress approvals.
