Description of the job

Duration: 12 Months

The Broughton plant manufactures wings for all airbus commercial aircraft and the operational management teams are responsible for delivering wings to our customers in the final assembly lines in Hamburg and Toulouse. These exciting internships offer the opportunity to work in wing manufacturing on a massive scale.

Roles are available in both A380 and Single Aisle Wing Manufacturing.

These teams within Broughton consists of over 2000 operators, engineers and support staff to ensure this critical manufacturing process achieves the cost and quality commitments demanded by our customers. As an intern you will work directly alongside an operational management or dedicated project team and be given the best possible understanding of the physical, financial and social challenges faced by large corporations. All of our intern managers have first had experience of the early careers
programmes in Airbus so are able to ensure that personal development goals as well as business goals are met during the placement.

All of the placements will give you the opportunity to:

¤ Lead performance improvement projects,
¤ Practically apply lean manufacturing tools and techniques
¤ Work on the analysis of rate changes and impacts to production systems
¤ Work within multi-functional teams giving insight into design, procurement, logistics and quality.
¤ Gain real life experience in the world of aircraft manufacture.

Tasks & accountabilities

For this internship you will be based in an operational area working with a project team, giving you first-hand experience of wing manufacturing in the UK.

During your internship you will be supporting, on time and efficiently, a manager or a team in project, operational, planning or organisational tasks.

Reporting to the project management team in the business area, you will be given specific tasks and responsibilities to help the business achieve its operational objectives. Topics will include:

·  Environmental Planning.

·  Small investment business cases and spend management.

·  NPO (Non Payroll Overhead) spend and improvement projects.

·  Operator involvement scheme support.

·  Understanding and support of the EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) controller in driving health and safety related
improvement projects.

The activities undertaken throughout the year will give you sound experience of working in a manufacturing environment using Lean principles, project planning, practical problem solving and ICT tools.

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.

Required skills

You must be an undergraduate for the duration of the placement studying towards a business or relevant engineering degree. A high level of proficiency in Excel skill is required.

You should also have experience of working in groups or teams, and technical interests outside of your studies are favourable.

Basic understanding of lean manufacturing methods is a plus
