Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a

Master Thesis student in the field of SmallSats (d/f/m). Title of thesis: Porting the F-Series SmallSat Flight SW to an ARM CPU

Airbus and its F-Series partners develop the satellite core avionics for small satellites. For the upcoming Onboard Computers a Flight Software variant for ARM CPUs shall be made available (so far F-Series is based on SPARC/LEON architectures). In the frame of this thesis a first prototype porting to ARM shall be performed.

Your tasks and responsibilities

· 
Familiarization with the F-Series Satellite Flight SW and functions

· 
Familiarization with the RTEMS-6 RTOS, Flight SW Framework, HW Abstraction Layer and Board Support Package (BSP) for current SPARC/LEON CPUs

· 
Create a new BSP and compile the Flight SW for ARM with RTEMS-6 (ARM in SOC)

· 
Modify the SpaceWire interface to use RMAP directly over Ethernet

· 
Test the SW alongside the existing satellite simulator connected to the ARM OBC via Ethernet

· 
Documentation of results (MS-Office)

Desired skills and qualifications

· 
Enrolled student aerospace engineering, software engineering, or comparable graduation

· 
Basic knowledge about real-time embedded software (C/C++)

· 
Solid experienced in C++ programming

· 
High level of motivation for learning and improvement of skills, personal initiative and the ability for efficient timing

· 
Team spirit and willingness to co-operate and working together in an international Company.

· 
Fluent in English
