One vacancy for a “Frequency Management engineer” is opened within Airbus Defence & Space in France (Toulouse site).
Within Airbus Defence and Space, the Spectrum & Regulatory Affairs (SRA) team is the transverse Center of Competence (CoC) supporting any wireless communications business by advising on the selection and use of the frequencies (the Frequency Management) for the wireless communications. As a consequence, this CoC is interacting with many teams such as (but not limited to) Strategy, Innovation, Pre-sale, Marketing and Sales, bids, Programs, Service Delivery, Engineering, Operations and Customer Support.
Your activities will be mainly focused on orbits and spectrum resource for space systems (Telecommunication satellites, Earth Observation satellites and Scientific space systems)
Tasks
In interaction with the main stakeholders of the various Program Lines of Airbus Defence and Space and under the supervision of experienced experts, you will be involved in the following activities:
Contribution to the relevant strategies and action plans about Frequency Management by:
· Understanding of the needs and objectives of the company in terms of technology, market and frequency challenges;
· Analyzing, including through technical simulations, and recommending the best options, de-risking and, accompanying their implementation with the support of relevant stakeholders;
· Anticipating and developing opportunities to support the positioning and growth of the Program Line businesses and products.
Development and implementation of technical/regulatory strategies to support space systems’ sales, bids and tenders and secure appropriate orbit/spectrum resources mainly by :
· Handling the process to access satellite orbit/spectrum resource with national and international regulatory bodies on behalf of CI and Space Systems and their customers;
· sharing intelligence with programs, business development, innovation, marketing and sales;
· Negotiating bilateral agreements with neighboring satellite operators (frequency coordination) to prevent interference.
Participation to development of applications to facilitate, automate and optimize regulatory spectrum management activities. You will contribute to:
· Understand and analyze the operation of existing applications,
· Define with the team new functionalities and new applications to be developed;
· Write the specifications and design the software architectures and the various modules required;
· The development of programs mainly in MATLAB (but not limited to)
Skills
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
· Engineering qualification (or equivalent 5-year degree) with scientific background (mathematics & physics);
· Knowledge in radio-communications;
· Knowledge of International Radio Regulations with at least two years of experience in spectrum & orbits management;
· Knowledge in programming languages such as MATLAB, VBA and SQL;
· Customer-oriented and determined to succeed with reliability, autonomy and initiative;
· Appetite for wireless communications;
· Team player;
· At ease with multi-national culture;
· Able to influence;
· Negotiation level in French, English and German.
A first experience in frequency management for satellite systems is mandatory
Miscellaneous
This role could involve business trips in Europe and abroad, from one day up to one week once every two months. You must be able to travel accordingly.
