Job Description

A vacancy for a Focal Plane Subsystem Architect (d/f/m) has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Ottobrunn.

The successful applicant will join “ Optical Instruments Electronics & Detection” within “Optical Instruments ”.

Your main tasks and responsibilities:

Since July 2017 'Optical Instruments' for Earth Observation, Navigation and Science are developed and delivered through a joint, single transnational

entity within Airbus Defence & Space, which collectively represents 394 years of optical experience in orbit as prime contractor from a total

of 47 optical instruments.

The business unit spans three sites in Ottobrunn, Friedrichshafen and Toulouse and is organized in a lean matrix of six transnational departments.

They are hosting approximately 300 employees comprising all critical engineering disciplines to develop space-borne optical instruments of any type

and complexity

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include

·  Define the architecture and specifications of focal plane sensors in the UV, visible, and IR and its associated detector drive and read-out electronics
·  Define the development logic according to mission system architecture and to integration constraints
·  Cascade requirements to sub-systems or systems components
·  Ensure proper integration of sub-system/system components at the system level

Qualification

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

·  You are educated to a Master's degree in Physics, Mechanical, Electrical or Optical Engineering, or equivalent studies
·  You have profound knowledge and industrial experience in laser and detector technologies and its associated drive electronics
·  You could already gain hands-on experience in optical labs
·  You know about product assurance principles and are aware of appropriate standards for space, ESA, ECSS, DSCC, MIL, etc.
·  You are enthusiastic about new space technologies and instruments and have the capability to work independently
·  You are a good team player and have excellent communication skills
·  You speak English and German to negotiation level
