Description of the job

A vacancy for a Data Model and Application Architect (m/f) position has arisen within Airbus (Commercial Aircraft) in Toulouse. You will join the Engineering Powerplant Capabilities team, a major actor in development of new and maintenance of existing methods and tools within the Engineering Powerplant Centre of Competences.

The Engineering Powerplant CoC is looking for someone ready to technically lead a progressive, but deep and extensive, revisiting of the data model and application architecture used in the frame of our development and in-service support operations.

Embedded inside the digital transformation initiated in our company; with the challenge to move into a more integrated IT solution enabling a model based design solution at the heart of our Systems Engineering way of developing.
Your mission will be to express strategic requirements in terms of data and applications, founded from a good overview knowledge of the as-is and the future needs to be covered, in order to cover the following needs:

- Overall interoperability
- Performance and scalability
- Reliability and availability

As part of your role, you will work inside a multi-disciplinary team, so that you can make use of your enthusiasm, positive energy, can-do attitude and well respected communication and influence skills. You will show as how much you are able to emphasise a consistent global methodology to follow and a sound data model governance.

Airbus is undergoing a significant digital transformation to benefit from the latest advances in new technologies and targets a major efficiency breakthrough across the program and product lifecycle. It will be enabled by a set of innovative concepts such as model based system engineering, modular product lines, digital continuity and concurrent co-design of the product, its industrial setup and operability features.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

• Understand the key process flows of the primary business design processes, so that it can be established a clear picture of the functionality map, the data flow and the footprint of various applications across the map.
• Create common solution architecture guidelines/requirements to be used by the different disciplines (with necessary adaptations), with a strong objective to achieve a resulting solution compliant with the level of interoperability, performance, scalability, reliability and availability established by the business.
• Define a generic data model language and vocabulary, allowing all disciplines to develop interoperable models according to functional need.
• Define how the data will be stored, consumed, integrated and managed by different data entities.
• Lead a number of key business projects in support to the digital transformation thrusts to be accomplished by and within our CoC.
• Maintain continuous knowledge and competitive intelligence of state-of-the-art technologies and IT solutions to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the key digital technologies which form the foundation necessary to effectively drive existing and future business requirements.

Required skills

You will have the following skills and experience:

• Educated to a Master level degree (or equivalent) in Engineering.
• Foundation in IT systems development: this has allowed you to become familiar with the IT system development life cycle; software project management approaches; and requirements, design, and test techniques. Experience in multiple approaches, including AGILE development methodology would be valued.
• Fluency in data modelling and management.
• Span knowledge in established and emerging digital technologies.
• Ability to conceptualise abstract IT systems ideas in a clear understandable way to key stakeholders.
• Team spirit with willingness to work for the group.
• Communications skills to present complex ideas to key stakeholders.
• You resonate with values like Respect, Commitment, Integrity and Courage.
• Negotiation level of English.
