A. Accountabilities

The job holder is accountable for leading, within and in collaboration with suppliers, complex projects/missions aiming in sustainably improving the industrial performance of a supplier or a supplier’s site and/or restoring and securing supplier performances

In his role the Supplier Development manager is accountable for:

● Assessing the industrial maturity and developing suppliers as need be

● Detailing the tactical plan with the various stakeholders, securing the results of the mission according to the objectives and associated roadmap defined and agreed with the internal customer – most likely the SCQM in charge of the supplier

● Defining and implementing improvement plans through leading changes & transformations

● Identifying the necessary competences, building the team with suppliers and Airbus people, developing the skills set of the project team either via “on the job coaching” or with support from other team members to secure plan roadmap milestones

● Representing AIRBUS at the supplier and ensuring Customer’s interests are protected

● Embodying Airbus Leadership Model and supporting the culture evolution in PO organization

B. Dimensions

These complex missions can be linked to:

- Supplier requiring a Transformation in order to prepare future challenges and sustain performance

- Industrial transfer or Complex Recovery having a direct impact on Airbus capability to deliver on Time, on Quality

- Structural/Organizational changes

- Financial difficulties

Deep understanding of industrial development and strong/diverse industrial background are important assets to succeed in the job as well as practical experience in the core skills of supplier development (APQP, MRP2, Lean methodologies, problem solving) and/or project management.

Intense travel periods and/or long stays in supplier sites may be required depending on the criticality of the project.

Subordinate employees: Non-permanent. According to Project needs & complexity, Airbus employees reporting to the project leader may vary from 2 to 6 from several functions. It may also include management of subcontracted activities.

Interaction with various stakeholders in procurement, quality, programs, engineering, manufacturing functions is generally involved, both on the Supplier and Airbus sides, potentially including Top Management level.

C. Main activities

As a Supplier Development Manager, you establish and execute the necessary action plan to secure the objectives of the mission.

It includes in particular:

● Leading the detailed assessment and evaluation of the supplier´s industrial situation

● Defining the action plan, with the supplier and SCQM, to improve or stabilize the supplier’s performance

● Ensuring supplier and Airbus team engagement and commitment to deliver the expected results

● Implementing in timely manner and on quality the shared and agreed plan

● Securing sustainability by ensuring supplier’s autonomy on implemented methodologies

Sub-activities include but are not limited to:

● Implement the process “ Complex Projects Management”

● Specify Project mission with supplier and internal customers in order to define SMART objectives

● Secure Crisis management methodology deployment at Airbus suppliers and Midterm projects to secure sustainability of Delivery

● Lead and empower the project team with your counterpart on supplier’s side – define the detailed action, based on structured approach, in line with Airbus practice and expectations – APQP, MRP2, Lean, Problem Solving

● Define the supplier maturity development plan in order to secure the sustainability of implemented methodologies Develop Project team skills by coaching and mentoring

● Propose and implement an optimized Project Structure and Governance model in order to secure short term deliveries, create a solid foundation for the long term, report on project status and steer necessary decisions.

● Manage the overall communication related to the project towards involved stakeholders, including Key Performance Indicators and roadmaps according to internal stakeholders’ expectations

● Identify and deploy internal and external best practices captured from previous projects and enrich the catalogue of best practices (Knowledge center)

● Identify and mitigate Industrial risks – feed the Supply-Chain and quality Watchtower

● Represent POL/PO in Project activities (incl. making decisions and commitments)

D. Outputs

● Full completion of the Project/Mission with formal closure and handover to supplier and commodities including agreement on the way forward

● Sustainable good performance of the supplier or supplier’s site

● Project led in compliance with the “Complex Projects Management” process

● Project lessons learned captured for continuous improvement

E. Skills required

● Industrial and Lean competencies are a must

● Advanced knowledge on project management; Potential credential is an asset

● APQP

● Experience in Supply Chain Management

● Shop floor culture and Gemba competences

● Crisis management experience
