Position Description

Specialist Engineer - Special Vehicles Development, Bangalore

The focus for Volvo Group is to be the world leader in sustainable transport solutions and Special Vehicles is an important contributor to achieve that. To make this happen we need talented people onboard. 
The Special Vehicles Development & Customer Adaptation (SVD & CA) team in Bangalore is responsible to support in development of low volume solutions and specific customized offers for Multi brand Truck ranges with Volvo Group.

Special Vehicles Development is also a major contributor to innovation projects for the Volvo group.

GTT Bangalore has built a SVD & CA team to deliver quick solutions with value to the Special projects. This team has Cross-functional competency with T-shaped engineers who can work in different technical areas of vehicle development. Team has  bunch of highly motivated and skilled engineers who are passionate about work and use their creativity to design, develop and maintain customized products & niche offers.

This team will support all brands and ranges within Volvo Group and is looking for new employees with passion and energy to build a truly cross functional team with a mix of people from different areas; chassis, cab, electrical & wiring, software and also vehicle and geometrical architects. We have experienced colleagues from Sweden ,Lyon & US with whom we will be working together to develop Heavy & Medium Duty Trucks.

Our way of working is lean and we continuously develop and implement innovative ways of working to secure high performance in time to market, quality and reduced development costs for all our products.

 

Role Description

You will be responsible for all the engineering activities within SVD Team, Bangalore.
For this position the main responsibilities & needed competency are:

·  Lead and take part in all the design activities from concept to industrialization for Special Vehicles products and deliver technical solutions agreed with our customers
·  Drive the technical dialogue with Engineering, Manufacturing, Aftermarket , Brand , Quality Purchasing and Suppliers/Partners
·  Based on product and customer knowledge provide input to the design of truck architecture of SVD projects which mostly aligns to vehicle platform decided by platform management team. 
·  Propose the optimum architecture based on balanced requirements for each application within each product project
·  Support architecture activities in SVD PMRs as per different gate requirements
·  Knowledge of development processes for all kinds of structural components and sheet metal designs (Chassis & CAB structures)
·  Knowledge of development processes for all kinds of routing media for e.g. wiring harnesses, pneumatic routing and clipping
·  Accountable for the QDCCF , drive the solution in all the stages of implementation
·  Contribute to the product-related risk register
·  Contribute in continuous improvement activities
·  Develop and share acquired competence and provide technical advice to peer team members
·  Participate in business development and innovation
·  Knowledge on CAD tools like Creo/Catia is mandatory
·  Knowledge on Volvo tools and processes will be an advantage

 

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills
For success in this role we expect you to have a university degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical field of study as well as work experience in the relevant field for a minimum of 8 to 10 years. You have specifically strong knowledge of design components related to the chassis, cab, electrical and wiring area. Previous experience from Volvo Trucks will be considered as a plus.
You are curious, creative and thrive to take the lead with courage and integrity and feel comfortable working autonomously. You have ability to build trust and to manage networking across the engineering-, manufacturing-, purchasing and sales and marketing organizations.
