Volvo Group is now searching for a software engineer in the XR platform team within the Virtual Products Management domain, supporting our tools in the Augmented-Mixed-Virtual Reality (XR) spectrum.
Virtual Lifecycle Management solutions cover Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) /CAD, Augmented and Virtual Reality applications. The solutions are a key enabler to achieve Engineering efficiency, virtual trust, and the Digital Twin capabilities across the Volvo Group.

We are Core Platform Area CPA PLM PDM, working to increase efficiency through our current set of Digital and IT solutions.
Our existing IT solutions comprises of a mix of varied technologies like Commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) IT solutions and SaaS solutions from CAD and PLM vendors. We find ourselves on the crossover of a transformation with heavy investments to transform and modernize our overall IT architecture and solution landscape. In the XR platform area, we are enabling our Engineering users to perform simulations/advanced visualization use cases using mainly COTS solutions.
We are supporting the Volvo Group’s Digital ambitions to become a fully agile, data-driven company. In our team we are tasked to deliver an XR data pipeline for usage within the COTS applications, but also -in house developed applications, converting and optimizing the data for the different use cases.
We are also responsible for adapting COTS applications to business needs, delivering methods, training, support, and certification of XR-related hardware for our area of responsibility.
Role Description Your Mission:
We are now looking for a software engineer in the PLM area in the XR platform team with a passion for developing industrial scale immersive visualization solutions to meet the needs of the business users in the PLM area going forward. Our main challenges where we are looking for help are within the XR data pipeline area and to support with the Volvo business customization of the COTS solutions to adapt them to business needs.
Since you will be part of a global unit, you will have global interactions and responsibilities to actively cooperate with various stakeholders and collaborate with ease in a multi-cultural environment. English is our main language across the Group.
Role mission & context
As a software engineer, you will be part of an experienced agile team of Solution Engineers participating and sharing your knowledge and insights in global activities to develop the future solutions in this area.
In the area of developing our XR data pipeline to support multiple different use cases and business areas within the Volvo Group you will work with Volvo Cloud and Infrastructures teams, coordinate with Business and IT projects for integrations, develop recipes for geometry processing for solving specific use case needs, develop and maintain the backbone solutions, and with building integration and user interface solutions fitting to the usage scenarios.
You will have Digital & IT colleagues also in Bengaluru, Lyon, Gothenburg, and Greensboro.
Wanted Profile
As a software engineer in the XR platform team you will work close to our stakeholders within Volvo Groups Truck Divisions/Business Areas in providing efficient tools and implementing modern technology for the cross-functional Virtual Engineering community. The XR platform team is responsible for industrializing XR tools usage within the Volvo Group Engineering community and manages several COTS applications supporting multiple business areas, such as trucks, buses, construction equipment and marine applications. Using the vendor solutions’ APIs, we are adapting COTS applications for our end-users’ needs or create integration to source systems for PLM data or other connected systems.
Competencies we are looking for include:
· Cloud experience: Microsoft Azure
· 3D graphics CAD and/or Rendering
· Coding languages: .NET, Python
· System integration and API development (REST, Open API)
· Experience of Engineering-level XR tools like IC.IDO, VRED, IPS, etc. is of high merit, as well as experience of geometry processing and optimization solutions like Pixyz or similar.
· Ability to work in and navigate in agile teams
· Self-going with a lean mindset and driven to improve the day-to-day experience for our business users who benefit from using XR tools
· Effective verbal, written communication, training skills and relationship building skills.
· Fluent in English
Merits
· CAD/PLM knowledge and experience with tools like Creo View, Windchill/PDMLink.
· Experience with Volvo Group way of working, e.g., from Product Design or Geometrical Architects
Note: We are not looking for Unity/Unreal focused developers, this role is targeting supporting such developers with data and supported hardware, not development in those tools.
