Powertrain Engineering is contributing to the Volvo Group’s competitive position in the market place by developing and maintaining profitable products and product components in terms of quality, delivery, cost and function and that comply with all applicable regulatory requirements. Our scope of work includes engineering and design of engines, gearboxes, axles, hybrid technology and driveline and is based on common architecture and shared technology.
In Curitiba we are responsible for the Latin America market on which concerns Powertrain Engineering Application. We drive product modification activities related to heavy diesel engines in all markets up to Euro 5 legislation, and support the Euro 6 and Euro 7 development as well. In addition, we support the global organization on specific delegated responsibilities.
In the Performance & Calibration team we develop the calibration of combustion engines and exhaust after-treatment systems. Our team is composed by skilled engineers with different backgrounds that work together to find innovative solutions for calibration, by deskwork and hands on at engine test cell and on vehicles, supporting software and hardware development.

What you will do
As performance and calibration engineer you will be working in the engineering department for heavy duty engines and exhaust after-treatment systems. Your goal will be to help the team to optimize fuel consumption, torque delivery, and driveability all within the legal emission limits.
The calibration team has interface with different areas of Volvo Group, such as vehicle’s testing, engine dynamometer and gearbox development, and we count with a complete infrastructure inside Curitiba plant. Our scope of products are heavy duty trucks and buses, and we also support colleagues and customers in different countries.
You core responsibilities will be
· Support the calibration of diesel engines and after-treatment systems to specified targets within limits for emissions, power, fuel consumption, diagnostic, and other Powertrain features;
· Plan, prepare and execute engine test cell and vehicle activities;
· Analyse data, perform calculations and simulations on which regards combustion and after-treatment;
· Participate on software development strategies and hardware specification;
· Organizing calibration files for formal production line deployment;
· Participate in engine development projects, considering risks and costs;
· Solve quality issues in product maintenance.
Requirements
It is considered a merit if you have experience in
· DOE methodology;
· Calibration tools such as: ATI-Vision, ETAS-Inca, AVL-Creta, CANalyzer;
· Data analysis and optimization tools such as: Python, Matlab, Uniplot, VBA, GT-power;
· Proven hands on experience in project(s) of medium and high complexity;
· Understand the heavy-duty market and applications;
· Ability to identify technical risks;
Education
· Master of Science (equivalent to engineer degree in Brazil) - Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics;
· Higher graduation level is a merit;
· Fluent in English and Portuguese, written and spoken.
Who are you?

· Understand powertrain operation;
· Be able to work in engine test bench and vehicle;
· Software calibration of diesel engines, after-treatment systems and vehicle;
· Knowledge in Euro III, IV, V, VI legislations and engine certification process;
