Mission/Purpose of the Position
The Logistics Development Engineer position is a part of the Transport Parts team within Service Market Logistics North America. The mission of the Transport Parts team is to design and continuously optimize the end-to-end transportation network from material suppliers to dealers and customers. Our work is intellectually challenging, cross-functional in nature, and has a direct impact on customer satisfaction and the performance of our service market supply chain. The Logistics Development Engineer will strive to secure improvements in the transport network with a focus on parts availability at the right place and time for customer use.
Scope & Influence
This position reports to the Transport Parts Manager and is based in Greensboro, NC.
Essential Functions
· Design and optimize the service market transportation network based upon lead times and service levels, cost and environmental impact
· Develop transportation network and other visualizations and analyses using Microsoft PowerBI, Python, SQL, and other technologies
· Drive and participate in cross-functional transportation and supply chain optimization initiatives
· Act as the main SML interface to the Logistics Purchasing function during the planning, execution and implementation of transportation provider and 3PL sourcing initiatives
· Support other internal functions with expertise and knowledge in transportation networks
· Act according to the Volvo values of customer success, trust, passion, change, and performance
Minimum Education and Experience
· BA/BS degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
· 3 years of relevant transportation and logistics work experience in a complex, preferably global, supply chain
· Knowledge of the end-to-end supply chain and drivers of transportation network performance, cost, and impact upon the environment
· Demonstrated ability to drive and support cross-functional continuous improvement / Lean initiatives and projects
· Experience working with heavy equipment or automotive supply chains a plus
· Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced team environment striving towards operational excellence guided by Volvo’s Values and the Code of Conduct
Necessary Technical/Functional/Language Skills
· As all documentation is in English, proficiency in the English language is required
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
· Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, and draw conclusions from complex data sets
· Demonstrated ability to communicate information and conclusions concisely to decision-makers at all levels of the organization
· Ability to take correct decisions based upon data analysis and experience
· Ability to manage projects and other deliverables to successful outcomes in defined timeframes.
· Ability to drive improvements and other initiatives in a cross-functional environment through informal leadership
· Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office applications)
· Advanced knowledge and experience in Microsoft PowerBI, data extraction technologies (e.g. SQL), and one or more scripting languages (e.g. Python, R)
· Knowledge of Agile methodologies, Microsoft Azure, and/or DevOps a plus
· Comfortable exploring and mastering new technologies and ways of working
