We are now looking for a senior executive leader with broad experience and a successful track record from the Japanese commercial vehicle industry to join our team in Japan. In the position as Head of our Japan Office, you will be a member of the Volvo Group Japan Office team and report to the Head of Volvo Group Japan Office. You will act as the Volvo Group legal company representative in Japan and secure the operational coordination of all the Volvo Group entities in Japan. In this role, you will also coordinate and support their business growth and operational plans in Japan.
The Volvo Group Japan Office is a strategic headquarter function responsible for steering and managing the Volvo Group presence and engagements in, and related to, Japan. In this role, the Volvo Group Japan Office steers our alliance with Isuzu Group and coordinates the Group’s partnership across functions and businesses. Additionally, the Volvo Group Japan Office is acting as the Volvo Group Headquarter in Japan, managing the relations with all Japanese stakeholders and authorities, and is responsible for operational coordination and business support in, and related to, Japan of all Group entities. The Volvo Group Japan Office support and catalyze the overall business development and profit related to Japan.
The position as Head of Japan Office will be based in Tokyo, Japan.
About the position
As the Head of Japan Office, you are a permanent member of the Volvo Group Japan Office, you are the Volvo Group Japan Corporation (VGJC) head, as well as the local representative for the Volvo Group employees in Japan. You are accountable to manage the relations with all the Japanese stakeholders and authorities on behalf of the Volvo Group, and you are responsible for the VGJC regulatory and business policies and processes, ensuring their business and legal compliance. You are also accountable to build and ensure that miscellaneous administrative support is in place to support to the Volvo Group business areas and business units in Japan to operate efficiently. This includes for example the management of real estate and office facilities, business travel policies, contract and negotiation with external suppliers, IT and office supply needs, as well as being the point of contact for HR.
In your role, you support the Volvo Group business development in Japan, securing the alignment for all Japan related topics. While coordinating the Volvo Group entities in Japan, you directly support and influence the overall strategic and operational planning and execution for Volvo Group Japan.
This comprehensive role includes conducting business intelligence activities to support strategic decision-making and growth plans for various business areas in Japan. The role requires a good understanding of Japanese corporate law, regulatory compliance, and business policies, as well as excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills. A track record of navigating effectively in complex international stakeholder management environment is imperative, including an excellent track record of managing complexity in a matrix environment.
The successful candidate will have:
A university degree in Business, Engineering, or Finance fields from a recognized institution.
Proactive and solution-oriented behavior with business acumen.
Collaborative approach, creating results through teamwork and a trustful dialogue, with a strong ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
High level of integrity and professional ethics.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong oral and written communication skills, and you are fluent in written/spoken Japanese and English.
An experience in working for both Japanese and European OEM is considered as a strong merit.
Good knowledge of Japanese corporate law, regulatory compliance, and business policies is also considered as a merit.
