What you will do
In your role as a BESS System Architect, you will focus on our Energy Management Systems (EMS) that support the complex needs of our Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) products in the rapidly evolving energy markets. You will support in establishing connectivity between the BESS units and its connected services, including local and cloud EMS functionality, including the digital twins that are the basis for our data-driven tools and decision engines. You’ll architect the environment around our IoT Edge devices, incl. connected vehicle chargers, sustainable energy generation and other devices enabling smart and connected energy management.
You’ll work with market interoperability between energy systems, encompassing standards like IEC 60870-5, 61850 and DNP-3 and make sure the IoT Edge solutions are designed to communicate accordingly. You will ensure reliable and cyber secure connectivity between edge components and the Volvo Energy EMS solution via MQTT/OPC-UA as defined by the Volvo Energy target architecture.
You will work closely together with several different, highly qualified, international teams to help design and build our solutions.

Qualifications likely required to be successful
• Experience developing embedded systems like IoT edge computers (Linux/ARM based) for communication and control applications. Preferably related to energy management, electric grids or real estate site control.
• Knowledge in the areas of
- Energy management systems (EMS)
- Supervision and Control systems (e.g. SCADA)
- Protocols like Modbus, MQTT and OPC-UA
• Solid understanding of cyber security, data management and modern integration technologies
• Relevant university education: electrical engineering, industrial engineering, computer science, Data, Informatics or equivalent.
• Experience from Agile development and DevOps practices.
• Fluency in English, written and spoken.
