Job Description
TOTSA TOTAL OIL TRADING SA is a trading company in charge of all physical trading and shipping of crude oil and refined products on behalf of the TOTAL group. It has been an active participant all over the supply chain as well as on the derivatives paper market in order to manage the market risk for a long time.
We are offering a 6 months internship for someone who intends to be involved in a challenging environment. Two main subjects will drive the training period
· Analyse and implement an existing margining model from an Exchange in order to simulate the impact of several trade scenario
· Develop a tool that retrieve and analyse settlement prices from various exchanges in order to challenge trader’s valuations. Several daily tasks are also to be considered:
· Develop/Debug reports sent to trading in an evolving environment
· Provide support to the derivatives middle office team as well as the derivatives trading floor
· Participate to the daily production (reports, analyses)

Candidate profile
This internship ifs for Engineering/Economy and finance students in the final year of their master degree with solid quantitative basis and knowledge of derivatives and modeling of stochastic processes.
· Programming skills (Python, VBA).
· Good analysis skills and ability to present complex problems in a precise and concise way.
· Previous experience on a trading floor or in the commodities market is a plus.
· Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
· Ability to work under pressure, in emergency and doing multi-task altogether.
· Good knowledge of both French and English is required.
· Only University sponsored applications will be considered.

Context and environment
Middle Office Derivatives provides daily comprehensive control of market activities which is organized around three themes:
- Monitoring of exposures and market risks borne by trading portfolios
- Calculation and dissemination of daily results
- Support and assistance to derivative traders
Monitoring exposure and market risks:
The Middle Office analyses all transactions processed the previous trading day (transactions in over-the-counter or concluded on organized markets). It monitors daily variations in the books and measure the impact on various risk factors. It studies the overall exposure of profit centers and their sensitivity to market fluctuations especially through a VAR analysis. It ensures compliance with the limits delegated to “Trading” and provides the management with indicators.
• Calculation and publication of daily results
The Middle Office measures the daily unit performance and exercise control over the consistency of information available: characteristics of individual operations and valuation parameters. He is in charge of validating valuation curves or "MTM" retained by traders (consistency check on price structures and comparison with external sources for the most liquid indices). It sets each day the overall outcome of each profit center and reports to management.
• Support and trading support
The middle office financial analyst also participates in the development and validation of information systems in collaboration with IT teams and financial engineering (testing and validation of the transaction pricing models, exposure tracking tools). It supports the traders through statistical analysis, quantitative performance of different trading strategies undertaken and develops management support tools.
