Short-term Research Project on Security of Networks and Serverless Computing
Barcelona, SPAIN IT development
Job description
Telefonica Research is hiring for a short-term research project on security of networks and serverless cloud computing.
Telefonica Research is a leading industrial research lab based in Spain. At Telefonica Research, we follow an open research model in collaboration with Universities and other research institutions, promoting the dissemination of scientific results both through publications in top-tier peer-reviewed international journals and conferences and technology transfer. Our multi-disciplinary and international team counts several full-time researchers, holding PhD degrees in various disciplines of computer science and electrical engineering.
We are looking for a researcher (close to finishing their PhD or in early stages after the PhD) to join our team of experts who are working on a project to assess vulnerabilities of serverless computing. As serverless computing has only recently emerged, neither its attack surface nor its security mechanisms have been yet scrutinised in depth by the research community. The aim of this project is to fill this gap with the goal of significantly increasing the security and privacy within the serverless ecosystem. Within this project, which can last up to 6 months, the researcher will investigate this gap in two ways: first by identifying misconceptions, weaknesses and limitations in current serverless architectures, and then by proposing a security toolbox that will include a set of techniques, tools, as well as cryptographic mechanisms that will ease the definition, enforcement and verification of fine-grained security policies within serverless infrastructures.
Qualifications:
· Ph.D. in Networking, Security/Privacy, Computer Science or any related fields (Or PhD studies underway).
· Experience in security, serverless cloud computing systems, monitoring tools and techniques.
· Very good record of research output (e.g., publications in top conferences and journals).
· Strong verbal, visual, and written communication skills.
· Ability to work in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinacy environment.
· Research experience in one or more of these technologies / paradigms: cloud computing, containers, serverless computing, confidential computing, eBPF, WebAssembly, etc.
· Strong background and experience in building systems and conducting experimental work (e.g., methodologies, software, testbeds, etc.) in one of the areas listed above.
· Proficient in programming languages such as C, C++, Python
