Job description
To provide support to the Test and Means engineers in the installation and dismantling of electrical and mechanical components and equipment required to enable aerospace generating systems, electrical motors and controllers to be tested.
• Assist engineers in all aspects of testing using both on and off-site facilities whilst maintaining a clean and tidy work environment (5S Implementation)
• Ensure that equipment and stock levels are always maintained, database entries are up to date.
• Manufacture or modify mechanical equipment, rig fixtures and electrical harnesses as requested.
• Understand basic operation of mechanical and electrical products and equipment.
• Assist with mechanical and electrical testing of Safran Group products.
• Mechanical equipment maintenance and installation.
• Hydraulic circuit construction, using solid and flexible piping.
• Installing system wiring in test cells, both high and low voltage.
• Modify existing test rigs to accept new equipment / components.
• Mechanical assembly of prototype / development units.
• Installation of measurement equipment and transducers both digital and analogue.
• Participate in Continuous improvement and 6S activities.
• Follow Safran Group operating procedures.
Candidate skills & requirements
Essential Skills
• An Engineering-related qualification (mechanical or electrical).
• Turning, Milling, Plumbing & Wiring essential
• Have good communication skills, both written and verbal when dealing with all levels within the development team and when required with maintenance and individual project engineers.
• Good working knowledge of MS Software i.e. Excel, Word,
• Evidence of written English at interview stage. This will be through providing certification of a formal English or technical qualification studied in the UK or overseas in English. If this cannot be provided you will be required to complete and pass an online SHL English comprehension test as part of the interview process.
• To understand engineering drawings
Desirable Skills
• Strain gauging experience
• Environmental testing understanding – including climatic, vibration and altitude
• Experience in continuous improvement projects, 5S, six sigma, lean, kaizen
