Join Us as a Supplier Materials Quality Engineer Team Leader
In this key technical leadership role, you'll guide and develop our Materials SQA team to ensure the quality, reliability and compliance of raw materials sourced from a global supply chain. You'll work closely with specialist laboratories, material validation boards and a network of suppliers—auditing, qualifying and improving material routes that are critical to our landing gear products. From driving long‑term audit strategies to analysing supplier data and approving new materials and processes, you'll play a central part in safeguarding performance, supporting innovation, and strengthening the foundations of our production capability.
What you'll be doing:
• Leading and developing the materials SQA team to ensure supplier quality objectives are met.
• Auditing and qualifying raw material suppliers, forgers, and casting companies globally in line with Safran's requirements.
• Collaborating with the Materials and Process Laboratory and Material Validation Board to recommend and approve new materials and manufacturing processes.
• Managing a 3-year rolling audit plan to ensure all critical suppliers and material routes are regularly validated.
• Collecting and analyzing mechanical and chemical data from suppliers to monitor performance, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement.
But what else? (benefits, specificities, etc.)
There is extensive travel required for this role, both around the UK and internationally, so flexibility is key to accommodate this.
Candidate skills & requirements
What you'll bring:
• A minimum of a degree or MSc in Materials Engineering or Materials Science.
• Industry experience working within a supply chain environment, specifically auditing and managing suppliers.
• Strong knowledge of raw materials, including ultra-high tensile steel and titanium manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency with quality tools such as FMEA, 8D problem solving, statistical methods, and supplier training.
• Ability to liaise effectively with suppliers and internal teams, solve technical issues, and ensure compliance with Safran group standards.
