The papermaking process practitioner will safely independently set-up, operate, and maintain pilot papermachine processes and equipment to develop new process understanding, improve existing processes, and make prototype paper products. Strong collaboration with the papermaking team, project teams, and modeling and simulation resources is required to develop and prepare for effective experiments, assist in process definition and key parameter learning for larger scale application, and test new materials and equipment for product development and cost savings purposes. The papermaking process practitioner will develop expertise in select transformations, work to understand relationship between key input and output variables, and independently run and improve equipment to understand operating windows and develop more robust transformations and products.
The position requires development of both theoretical papermaking understanding and pragmatic application of the knowledge. Safe and effective operation in a hands-on, hardworking, collaborative team environment is a base requirement, and a strong desire for continued learning is essential. Work occurs in a fast paced R&D environment so every day is different. Current schedule is 4 - 10 hour shifts and is subject to change. Little to no travel required.
Job Responsibilities
Safely & independently set-up, operate, and maintain pilot papermachine to develop and prototype new paper processes and products.
Collaborate effectively with papermachine and project teams to optimize test plans, analyze results, and improve papermachine and supporting processes.
Troubleshoot and solve problems effectively in a complex and dynamic process, making rapid decisions in a process environment.
Base mechanical skills and effective tool use required. More advanced mechanical skills to rebuild equipment preferred.
Additional Job Requirements
Maintain test data, supporting records, and own quality and/or safety supporting systems.
Independently manage and implement projects to improve processes, equipment, systems.
Desired profile
Associates Degree in a science technology field or similar experience.
