The key objective of this project is to develop a technical model and formulation strategy for the deposition and retention of small molecules on surfaces from the liquid phase. The successful candidate will have skills in surface science, physical chemistry, organic chemistry, colloid science, and/or surface modification and will be pursuing a doctoral degree in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or Material Engineering with an emphasis in surface, colloid, and interface science. The specific project deliverables include:

• Development and experimental validation of a mechanistic technical model that describes the deposition and retention of small molecules on surfaces immersed in a liquid medium.
• Application of the mechanistic model to identify critical physicochemical properties of the small molecules that influence deposition and retention.
• Integration of the technical model to design a formulation strategy that enhances small molecule deposition and retention from the liquid phase.

Key Priorities, Deliverables, or Outcomes of This Position:
