Job description

We are seeking a Data Engineer to help us develop, deploy, and sustain robust and efficient digital infrastructure and data assets. This individual will:

·
Define common data models, architecture, and strategy to enable faster and/or better learning across challenging R&D problems in partnership with multiple scientific disciplines. Anticipate new digital technologies and techniques that will amplify the insights that innovators can obtain from their data.

·
Collaborate with and contribute to the team that oversees the R&D on-premises servers and cloud infrastructure used by a wide range of R&D customers, and envision the future infrastructure that will be needed.

·
Partner with IT to streamline the processes required to explore and test new digital technologies; maintain simple application publishing procedures for early-stage application development, testing, and early scale-up; establish simple guidelines to identify which applications should be moved to production; and create the process to transition applications from R&D-controlled development infrastructure to IT/GBS-controlled production infrastructure.

·
Develop databases, provide administration for Linux- and Windows-based servers, and have familiarity with coding in one or more of R, Python, and/or SAS to set up and deliver necessary R&D computing infrastructure.

Job Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

·
Masters’ degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems Management, or a related field, or equivalent in-role experience as a data engineer or a computer systems engineer.

·
Strong expertise in data engineering and computer systems engineering, including coding skills in at least one of Python, R, or SAS.

·
Expertise in Linux and Windows systems administration and familiarity with managing both on-premises systems as well as infrastructure in the Azure cloud.

·
Enthusiasm for improving data collection, feature engineering, and analysis processes, and a passion to create innovative, standardized, and/or simplified solutions.

·
Collaboration skills to manage relationships at multiple levels: within immediate organization, more broadly across R&D, and cross-functionally particularly with IT.

·
Willingness to learn and comply with corporate data handling, security, and safe coding requirements.

It is desirable, but not required, for the successful candidate to also have:

·
Knowledge of more than one of the coding languages shared above.

·
Basic knowledge of statistics and/or data science.

·
Ability to influence and drive transformation, including anticipating, envisioning, developing, and delivering data and digital technologies that enhance the work of the R&D innovator.

·
Experience or knowledge in configuring and deploying continuous integration/continuous delivery pipelines for software deployment.

·
Awareness of Kubernetes or related technologies that deploy containerized applications. Interest in learning how to deploy and upgrade containerized applications.

·
Awareness of GitHub.

·
Awareness of Databricks.
